And I'm out. Was quite comfortable with 58k but on a table full of agressive players, particularly the chipleader who had 200k and was bullying everyone. I lost a big hand with him with AA < J5 on 5xx5x board. Then a couple of hands later he limps and I raise him 4x to 8k with AQ, he calls. Flop is something like JT2 and he checks, I bet about 12k which leaves me ~20k behind and I know he is going to put me all-in with anything even though I'm committed. He does, so I call, he shows 55, and it holds.

It was a really good tournament but it was a shame my first table got broken up before I could get Ralph's chips. The table I moved to was very hard to play with as a couple of them knew each other and they were 3bet bluffing and continuously making moves. When I get aces they make trips with J5 :x

My second table was near the camera but when I walked past it was pointed at the wall and it didn't look like anyone was filming. I didn't even see 'The Tower' all day.

It was a really good structure. I arrived fashionably late and missed most of lvl1 but only lost about 200 chips from my 25k stack. I knew it wasn't going to be my lucky day when the first hand I receive is AA and one person calls with T7o and flops the straight. I got dealt aces three times during the day and lost twice, and picked up the blinds once.

Apparently in the very first hand (before I even got there) someone tripled up by making a royal flush and two others had full houses.

Also, I just remembered that some big Welsh bloke at my table chased a gutshot and hit it on the river and the other player started having a go at him for how he played the hand. Then the Welsh bloke almost started crying.

Thanks to Rex and Aaron for letting me stay and giving me lifts to and from the Casino.
It's a shame that nobody else here could play, but it's almost a dead cert the Goliath will return and so we should definitely try and have a proper GR meet next time.

Yeah I'd have loved to have gone this time. Maybe keep an eye out for any similar events running throughout the year.

Right, so the home game with my buddies.

Each player started with 12k and there were four of us. I created the following structure which allowed for a lot of play:

30 minute blinds

50/100
100/200
150/300
200/400
250/500
300/600
400/800
500/1000
750/1500
1000/2000

So some of the hands from my perspective. The first decent pot I remember involving myself in is when I called from the small blind with K7cc to see a flop three handed. It came KT7. I managed to get three streets of value from this hand against my friend who had K9. After that the next major hand was when I was on the button and saw a three handed flop with QThh. It came Q27. The small blind (who we shall call luckyfriend) bets out for 1000, the big blind calls, and I make it 3.5k. Luckyfriend only had 5k back and after some deliberation goes all in. The big blind calls and so do I. We check it down to the river (turn and river were both 9s) and luckyfriend has Q9 to triple up. :fp:

Fortunately I had built up a decent stack and could afford the hit, however this left the big blind short on about 5k with blinds at 250/500. A little while later and he shoves from first position. The button folds and I have ATo. I call and the big blind folds. I win with AT > Q5ss to boost my stack back to 21k. After some good stealing I get up to about 28k and raise from the small blind with T7dd at 300/600. Luckyfriend comes along for the ride and we see a T87 flop. I bet 1800 and he min-raises to 3600. Luckyfriend is a pretty dodgy player and makes some unconventional plays that are pretty bad, and I think he would make this raise with any ten because I had really opened up 3 handed to build my stack, showing down some pretty weak (but winning!) hands in the process. The turn is a 2 and I check raise all in. Obv he has 96 for the straight and I double him up for the second time, though his stack had slipped to about 12k. I still had a workable stack especially considering my friend to my right was really struggling with like 5-6k. He does eventually succumb to luckyfriend and we get HU with me having about 16k from the 48k in play.

I made some inroads pretty early when turning the nut straight with 85o and getting paid off on the river when he made two pair. Suddenly I had 22k and he had 26k. A few hands later at 500/1000, I min raise J9dd from the small blind/button and he defends. The flop comes J24 and he bets out 3k which I call. 7 on the turn and he bets 7k and I go all in. He tank calls and at this stage I am quite comfortable with my hand. Eventually he calls and shows J2. :| 9 on the river though. 8-) (J9 4life)

Very next hand I shove from the button with A6hh and he calls with T8cc. He flops trips to double to 8k. A few hands later and He raises from the button to 3k and I defend with QThh. It comes Jx7h2h and I shove. He calls and shows me JJ and doubles to 16k. :| :fp: So it's not a disaster but given he's been coolering me all game I'm wondering if it's just not meant to be. In the final hand I looked down at my first pocket pair all day - AA. I raise to 3k and he re-raises to 7k. After 15 seconds or so I shove and he calls showing KJo. He turns a gutshot but it misses and I win.

Sample is too small to judge anything tbh. Here is a sample of me running good:

Image

Where as running bad I have had 100 games with almost no cashes and a drop of 1.5k or so. Keep grinding but you got a lot more to do yet. :P

Thanks for killing my buzz, Rex. :x ;)

I get what you mean though. I just lost six in a row, then won one.

Out of those six, I got coolered 4 times. Three or four handed, running QQ into AA/AK into AA/JJ < QK/TT < 99.

Gotta handle them swings.

Swings can be levelled a bit buy honing your play and avoiding tilt too of course! Not all swings are variance related.
