I think the standard of play at Stars may actually be even worse now that the Americans aren't playing:

Poker Stars $3.00+$0.30 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t20/t40 Blinds - 8 players - View hand 1293867

I'm not blaming you - but I DID get a virus - called MS Removal Tool. Trying to get rid of it is a bit of a headache at the moment.

I've got the day off work so decided to try my hand at the fifty50s on Stars. So far they are going well with 7/10 cashes and 68% ROI, but more importantly I think they are great fun with an interesting structure that greatly rewards bullying

How do they work again? I remember playing a couple then not bothering again.

Ten player tables, top 5 cash. Prize money is split so that half is awarded equally between the top five, and the remaining 50% is split depending on stack sizes.

It's a bit like double or nothings except you don't have to fold every hand. The interesting part comes when you are down to about 7 players as shorties will be trying to fold into the money, and big stacks will be trying to get more chips. If you are a big stack it's even sometimes better to keep the short stacks alive so the game doesn't end until you've got more chips of the mid-stacks.

Apparently at the $20+ levels there are tons of regs and it's hard to make a good ROI, so i'll just stick with the $5 and $10 ones for now as they are super soft.

I didn't play very many in the end, just fifteen $5 games (could do that in an hour 6-tabling :fp: ) but I'll probably play a load more tonight. I'd already played a few games yesterday too, so results so far:

21 games
ITM: 76.2%
ROI: 42.9%
Profit: $47.80

While my sample size is obviously tiny, so far I'm finding it a piece of cake to cash but it's not so easy to cash with over 3000 chips which is what you need to double up. I did triple up in one of my games though, which was nice.

I'm pretty deep in a $5 FO.

There were just under 4000 entrants and currently i'm 36/130. Money is extremely top heavy though so you hardly get anything unless you reach the final table.

Just what I needed:
Image

It was all-in preflop, not sure why that guy called me for half his stack with A4 though. I can't remember the last time I got a royal, definitely a long time ago.

Update: 22/39.

Update: Just scraped through to the final table in 9th place...

Update: Thought it was all over then. Big stack raised and I thought he was doing that with any two so I shoved and we get it in pre:
Image

Update: Down to 8 now and the run good continues. All in pre flop again and the card were dealt extra slowly:

The run good is getting silly now, I just want to go to bed.

All in pre flop once again:

If my calculations are correct then the odds of me winning all three of the last hands I posted is just 2.7%.

Update:
And it's over! I finished 2nd earning a nice $2,321.86, so it was worth the long, sleepless night

I should have won the final hand (I got it in on the turn as 82% favourite) but after all the luck I had, I can't complain about that.

With 3969 entrants I think this is the biggest field where I've made final table.

Nearest thing I could find to a poker related dealwithit.gif

To be fair I did have some run bad earlier on in the tournament but yeah the poker gods were on my side for that final table. I was 9th and very short going in, so to get 2nd is way better than I had expected. It didn't take long for someone else to bust out in 9th but then going from 8 players to 7 took ages and I really wanted 7th place at the minimum as it was $450 which was almost double what 8th place gets.

I really ejoyed the whole tournament. The general standard of play was very poor, more so than usual. When it was down to about 100 players I was looking up everyone that sat at my table and very few were profitable players. Even on the final table there were only one or two, and they weren't hugely profitable either.

I just noticed that it's my second biggest cash at Stars.
