What's with the turn and the river in that video? Why do they do it four times, and how does it determine the winner?

It's a cash game so if they both agree to run it several times then they can do it. The reason they do it is to reduce variance when it's a big pot, if you are 90% favourite in a $100k pot you don't really want to get unlucky and have the other guy hit. In the vid it is run four times and so each time it is worth 25% of the pot, so helmuth won 25% and other guy got 75%.

Haven't had a working computer for a while, and wanted to play poker so I put £10 in my Skybet account as you can playing SkyPoker through IE so I can then play at Uni. I've turned £10 into £76 in quite a short space of time. It's like people want to give you their money.

Just heard about that a few mins ago and straight away withdrew most of my roll. Haven't played for ages anyway and don't expect to in the next couple of weeks so may just take it all out and then move to a euro site.

Any particular reason why the US government felt that the American public needed to be protected from the evils of online poker?

Seems pokerstars is fine for people outside the US and everyone is still playing. With that in mind the Sunday mill is still at $1.5mil GTD. Might be a good idea to try satelite in tomorrow? Or at least watch to see how many buyins there are.

Just back from casino tournament in Coventry. Aaron and I played the £15 Freezeout, starting stack is 7500.

It started off pretty standard. I made two pair relatively early on and chipped up to 8.5k. Little while Later I moved to 10.5k when some woman calls off the last of her chips with A3cc and runs into my AA. Just before the first break, I picked up JJ and ended up losing 2k when some guy made a flush on the river and I paid him off. I was quite unhappy with this as all my instincts were telling me to fold and I was somewhat sure he had the flush but I still called. :?

After that we went on a break, but the first hand back was huge. A Jason Mercier lookalike limped in from the C/O and I called with A5o from the button. The blinds and some of the other players had not yet returned from the break. Flop came A58r. He bet 200 (the min), I raised to 800 and he called. Turn is a 9, I bet 1900 with about 5k back. He rather quickly puts me all in. I thought for a little while and then made the call to see that he had 89 for a worse two pair, and that put me up to 18k. After that I got moved for the final time with 3 tables left. At this table I ran card dead before picking up AK in the small blind and lost a flip for half my stack (55 > AK). After that I was grinding the short stack for what seemed like an eternity, stealing here and there.

Aaron is then moved to my immediate right which is nice as we can chat whilst playing. I pick up UTG KQ and jam it in, only to be called by a shorter guy's KK. I have a gut shot on the river but it doesn't materialise. After that I shove A3 in the BB for around 4BBs total and ended up making a straight with that against KJo to double. After this I started moving in quite a lot and managed to fight my way back to 10BBs (16k). Long time later I have A9o in the BB and the big stack at the table raises and I 3bet all in, having him crushed with A9 > Q9. I doubled to and a bit more thanks to the antes to 34k.

A little before this a big stack had been moved to our table except he had gone home like two hours before and still had a monster stack. So at this time we were 6 handed with only 5 players at the table was was great for me and Aaron as we were to his direct right. A long time later the other table lost a player and so did we, and we both made the final table with 38k. I think we both fancied our chances but because the blinds were so high it was a crap shoot. The very first hand of the final table I pick up kings and shove. Amazingly, when everyone folds I look to my right and see that I appear to have been called by someone along the table. I look up and it is Aaron! Apparently he shoved in UTG and I completely missed it. Anyway it's my KK vs. his JJ. Window card? Jack.

He had me covered by 600 chips and so that was the end of my tournament. The Mercier lookalike who had also made the FT said he'd folded a jack, so I got one outed. I did have 25% of Aaron though and he ended up finishing 5th after getting unlucky with some flips, so I got my money back.
