I hope Mickey Rourke wins for the wrestler, he was fantastic in it.

I can't see Rourke not winning it to be honest. Same goes for Ledger.

Damn you, Banjo!

I make two topics a year, and this was going to be one of them. I was all set before the forum ruddy crashed.

I even made a swish banner:

Image

Which may, or may not, have been nicked from the BBC. But I worked for them once, so it's okay.

You can claim it back, y'know. May I use the banner in your honour then? I'll give you a credit and everything. I'm just currently cleaning up the OP. By the way, I never bother with the Red Carpet nonsense so if anyone wants to post anything interesting that's happening then feel free.

I've deleted my topic now though so it doesn't matter. You did post yours five minutes before mine though, and them's the rules.

If anyone has any links to feeds, we should stick them in the OP. You could update it as and when the winners are announced too (if you're not stay online all night, I can use my Mod powers to do this?).

Also, you can use the banner.

It's a shame I'm not at home, as I don't have Sky Movies here, and I hate watching streams on my laptop, but it'll have to do.

Also, the winners have allegedly been leaked:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainmen ... 903045.stm

But it's been dismissed as a fake by the Academy. It'll be interesting to see how closely that matches the actual ceremony.

Marvellous. I'll at least be able to manage until 3am with the results so I'll be able to cover a good few of them. If I appear to be slacking or have vanished then by all means, continue updating. And the banner will be added now.

Right, here's my list of who I think will win (highlighted in black) and who I want to win in red (highlighted in red, if these two differ). I've abstained from voting in some categories, due to not watching any of the films nominated.

Best Picture
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire

Thought Slumdog was good, but Button was better. Shame The Wrestler wasn't nominated.

Best Actor In A Leading Role
Richard Jenkins - The Visitor
Frank Langella - Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn - Milk
Brad Pitt - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke - The Wrestler

Best Actor In A Supporting Role
Josh Brolin - Milk
Robert Downey Jr. - Tropic Thunder
Philip Seymour Hoffman - Doubt
Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight
Michael Shannon - Revolutionary Road

Best Actress In A Leading Role
Anne Hathaway - Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Jolie - Changeling
Melissa Leo - Frozen River
Meryl Streep - Doubt
Kate Winslet - The Reader

It's between Streep and Winslet here, and the latter will probably win. I can't help but think of Ricky Gervais in Extras was right, mind. Hathaway was the performance I most enjoyed, though perhaps it's not technically "the best". Likewise, I thought Jolie was really good, especially as some people dismiss her as a serious actress.

Best Actress In A Supporting Role
Amy Adams - Doubt
Penelope Cruz - Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Viola Davis - Doubt
Taraji P. Henson - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Marisa Tomei - The Wrestler

Not really sure who'll win this one, to be honest. Adams or Cruz could easily get it too.

Best Animated Feature Film
Bolt
Kung Fu Panda
WALL-E

Best Art Direction
Changeling
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
The Duchess
Revolutionary Road

Best Cinematography
Changeling
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire

Best Costume Design
Australia
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Duchess
Milk
Revolutionary Road

Best Director
David Fincher - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Ron Howard - Frost/Nixon
Gus Van Sant - Milk
Stephen Daldry - The Reader
Danny Boyle - Slumdog Millionaire

Best Documentary Feature
The Betrayal (Nerakhoon)
Encounters at the End of the World
The Garden
Man on Wire
Trouble the Water

Best Documentary Short
Abstained

Best Film Editing
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire

I've picked TDK as my favourite, largely because I didn't like Slumdog's main narrative device.

Best Foreign Language Film
The Baader Meinhof Complex
The Class
Departures
Revanche
Waltz with Bashir

Best Makeup
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Not really sure on this one too. I've not seen Hellboy, and I'm voting for TDK purely because of the Joker's look. I picked Hellboy over Button largely because it's the more visually extravagant film.

Best Score
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Defiance
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire
WALL-E

Best Song
"Down to Earth" - WALL-E
"Jai Ho" - Slumdog Millionaire
"O Saya" - Slumdog Millionaire

Best Short Film (Animated)
La Maison en Petits Cubes
Lavatory - Lovestory
Oktapodi
Presto
This Way Up

Have no idea who will win this, and I've only seen Presto, which was admittedly ace.

Best Short Film (Live Action)
Abstained

Best Sound Editing
The Dark KnightIron Man
Slumdog Millionaire
WALL-E
Wanted

Best Sound Mixing
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Slumdog Millionaire
WALL-E
Wanted

Best Visual Effects
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Iron Man

Button should win largely for its CGI aging.

Best Adapted Screenplay
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Doubt
Frost/Nixon
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire

Frost/Nixon or Slumdog for this. Button I really enjoyed, but wouldn't say it was a masterful adaption if you look at the original short story.

Best Original Screenplay
Frozen River
Hapy-Go-Lucky
In Bruges
Milk
WALL-E

I agree with most of your predictions (though I can't pass judgment on Button yet as I've yet to see it. However, I'd like for Wall-E to win everything it's nominated for, it's been a long time since a film has managed to reduce me to a wee infant watching Jurassic Park for the first time. Slumdog has an incredible score, no doubt about it, but Wall-E was just a magical experience from start to finish in every way imaginable.

I agree with all the stuff your say about Wall E. I watched an early Saturday morning screening, and I honestly didn't feel out of place amongst all the young children. I was giggling like a five year old, and often genuinely upset and concerned at certain points in the film.

I think Button will be one of those films which won't win any of the big awards, but mop up all the technical ones instead. The Dark Knight will be its main competition in these, I think.

Thanks for the links, Chalky. I've got the Sky Movies one on now. Shame it's like last year's and has Claudia Winkleman interrupting the ceremony. Even though I would marry her.

EDIT - Oh, strawberry float, it's Gok Wan.

For christs sake! They've had two hours to get all this fashion bollocks out of the way! I want to see two-faced celebrities attempt to look happy for one another!

And why, why did they have to get Gok Wan for this? They should have gone for the comedic route and filled the room with Michael Winner, Michael Gambon and Ken Russell.

But blimey, Marisa Tomei is looking amazing.
