Having undertaken the first engine fire-up of the car on Saturday, the team travelled to Silverstone to get some mileage on it before its official launch in London on Friday.

Team principal Tony Fernandes admitted that the first run with the new car had meant a lot to him. "Shakedown started. Quite a few tears," he wrote on his official Twitter feed.

Lotus is scheduled to begin proper testing of the car at next week's third pre-season F1 test at Jerez in Spain.

Nah, it just looks bad. The colours make it look really outdated and the front nose and wing are hideous. Let's wait for the proper shots on Friday, but I bet it won't be pretty from any angle.

That Lotus looks great, if a bit simple, but then they've only had a few months to build a car so you can't expect too much.

It does remind me of the old days with odd looking cars at the back of the grid. Will they be classed as a British team?

It's perfectly possible that the bodywork is fugly as uck, but I can't see anything but the beautiful colours! You see them as outdated, I see them through enormous rose-tinted spectacles. So yeah, the car looks great to me! 8-)

It's a shame that the test was a wash out really. Those times mean even less to us than testing times normally do!

Ahh, that helmet makes me imagine I have a ringpull in the top of my skull. Keep hearing that opening sound as though it's coming frmo my head!

See that really annoys me. That would be like taking Ferrari and rebadging them as Malaysian.
