Sir John Curtis says that the results in the local elections so far are 'not far short' of catastrophic for the Tories

They are 'one of the worst if not the worst' Conservative performances in local elections for 40 years

He says that Tories are losing half the seats they are contesting

Blackpool South represents third biggest swing in post-war election history

I think anyone plotting to get rid of Sunak will realise they've left it too late. They won't find anyone willing to go through the motions of a leadership contest to just become one of the shortest serving Prime Ministers ever, and the Conservative leader that leads them to one of, if not their worst election results ever.

Assuming they give a new leader long enough to beat Truss, I think there are plenty of Tories who'd love to be PM for a few months, even if they'd lose the GE badly.

I'd be much more excited about this if Starmer wasn't such a lying prick.

Given that the Tories could spend a reasonable amount of time out of government, this could be their only shot at being PM. They all know they are going to lose so it would purely be about damage control now. I think we'll see Brady on the news a lot in the next few weeks.

The Conservatives are having a very, very rough time. They have lost around half of the seats they are defending.

If this rate of loss continues across all the seats being fought, it would be in line with their worst performance in a set of local elections when looked at as a proportion of their seats lost - which was back in 1995.
