Apache Air Assault [360/PS3/PC] - Demo on XBL & PSN now (PC demo not yet available)

It's not bad at all. Never heard of it until now, of course, but it's being published by Activision across various formats. Been playing the demo for an enjoyable hour or so - anyone who's a fan of those CoD-like air-attack moments manning a high-caliber helicopter-mounted machine gun (not to mention packing a healthy stash of air-to-ground missiles) whilst picking off choice ground targets should appreciate this game's central USP. It's like playing any one of those Live Leak military videos (right down to the zoomed black and white TV camera footage of RPG-toting terrorists in the back of fleeing pickups).

The flight engine is manageable, even quite good fun. Visually - well, it won't change the world, but it also doesn't insult the player with shoddy graphics. Seems like a fairly competent, mostly entertaining title. I managed to complete all three available levels in the demo (playing on Easy), so draw your own conclusions.

Worth a try. You might like.

Downloaded the demo on PSN last night, as you say, it's not going to change the world, but it's enjoyable. Might try realistic at some point. I was surprised by the sticker system, despite it being a bit hard to get the hang of. I love the idea of local, single-screen co-op, plus watching a dev walkthrough it is suggested that there are 12ish purely co-op missions, designed for multiple helicopters.

My only concern with that is that this game may not be all that popular, so finding people to play it with may be hard, unless anyone else on here is thinking of getting it (PS3 for me)?

After playing it i wanted to watch this:

Is there a PC demo? I have a personal interest in the subject matter of this game.

Doesn't look like the PC demo is out yet... but keep an eye out. Could be one in the works.

Played the demo on the PS3, it's not too bad.

Flight controls seemed a bit unwieldy at times, would probably be better on the PC with a proper joystick set up.

Graphics were also a bit hit and miss, with the helo models having alot of detail, but everything else looked a bit last-gen.

Hmmm.

As long as there's some gratuitous heli-porn, the target audience for this game will be happy.

Oh I'm sure it will appeal to its target audience, regardless.

Played 5mins this morning on ps3 and quite liked it, but you just reminded me...... I've got one of those xbox 360 flight sticks, shall have to dig it out and see if it works on the 360 demo.

I imagine as with games like Swat 4, you get some seriously hardcore people/groups playing, as in ex/current military, as well as helicopter crews, although i imagine they'd get it on the pc, better joysticks, modding etc. I'm not that hardcore :(

That's my plan. Although I'm in it mainly to see if they've got the technical details right, and if the cockpit looks right.

This is strangely true, despite being one of the ugliest vehicles ever made...

This. It's the ultimate war game.

Aside from the first Operation Flashpoint, of course

There was a patch a while ago that added nothing BUT Apache stuff.

I'm not joking.

And now I'm intrigued.
