Alien Breed Coming to PSN/Live?

Team17 has revealed plans to remake old run and gun series Alien Breed.

The Worms developer is aiming for a 2009 release, according to Videogaming247, but is keeping all other details under lock and key.

Alien Breed popped out alongside shell suits and rollerblades in the early nineties, and is remembered fondly by Amiga fans for its top-down co-op alien-blasting action.

It's the sort of game that would translate well to PSN or Xbox Live Arcade, we reckon. Safer than going up against full-priced affairs such as the Aliens FPS from SEGA and Gearbox, too.

Nice to see something other than Worms, though.

Make it like the overhead 2D versions though, not the fourth 3D game.

Why not WiiWare? Seems unfairly dismissive.

But yeah, I'd absolutely love this. Top-down, please.

I seriously loved Alien Breed on the Amiga! :lol:

I do't mind it going 3D but it needs to be overhead view. And 4 player co-op.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant news! Alien Breed: Special Edition is one of my favourite games of all time. It was a masterpiece and I can't wait to learn more about what Team 17 have planned. Even if they just re-release AB:SE on Live Arcade I'd be ecstatic!

I loved Alien Breed back in the day. Good to see Team 17 doing something other than Worms.

Loved this on the Amiga - co-op with my mate was awesome.

Anyone remember that pre-rendered intro? It used every last bit of processing capacity the Amiga had, such that any input (mouse movement, keystroke) during the couple of minutes it took to render would crash the machine.

Still, Team 17's ST emulation modes were legendary.

This is great news. Lets hope Superfrog is next.

Place me firmly in the top down 2D camp! I played the originals only breifly on a friends machine, but still have fond memories of the game.

Team 17's reincarnation of Alien Breed will be released on 16th December on Xbox Live Arcade. PC and PS3 owners must wait until next year for the game.

Alien Breed costs 800 MSP (£6.80/€9.60) and reinvents the old top-down shooter on modern day hardware. Unreal Engine 3 is under the hood and powering 3D models and environments plus new-age lighting.

There's some sort of story about aliens and spaceships, plus online or offline co-op for two.
