Is anyone planning on getting a touchscreen monitor when they upgrade to Windows 7? Given that Dell and now HP have both announced touchscreen monitors in the last two days at what seem like pretty decent prices I am tempted to get one in the near future. My monitor needs upgrading anyways as its currently a 17 inch CTX. :shifty:

Amazon: Windows 7 is Bigger Than Harry Potter

How can Windows 7 be bigger than Harry Potter, you ask? That box can’t be more than 15 inches tall, while Daniel Radcliffe is at least 5′8”!

Well, what Amazon meant when they said that was this: Windows 7 is the biggest grossing pre-order product of all time on Amazon.co.uk.

Even Amazon UK’s MD Brian McBride sounds a bit surprised: “The launch of Windows 7 has superseded everyone’s expectations, storming ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as the biggest grossing pre-order product of all-time at Amazon.co.uk, and demand is still going strong.” We’re not; we wrote earlier that Windows 7 is being preordered a lot more than Vista, and that trend obviously hasn’t changed until the very last day.

I’ve been testing Windows 7 since the first beta and while I have my qualms about it, one can’t deny that it’s better than Vista: it feels faster, looks nicer, the unnecessary fat *cough* sidebar *cough* was trimmed and it has a whole lot better hardware and driver support. And one also cannot deny that Windows XP was released in October 2001, which means that Windows users have been waiting eight long years for a decent replacement for their operating system. Tomorrow, they’ll be getting one; no wonder they’re excited.

To be honest, I think the whole public beta thing has done them a great favour here.

I'm loving this. Was due a new install anyway really as my old windows was creaky as gooseberry fool (wouldn't let me into internet options for example). Was worried it might struggle on this PC but even the aero stuff has no lag at all. Magic.

That and the limited time price-cut for early pre-orders. I'm sure there were plenty of people who would normally have held off buying Windows 7 at launch, but took the plunge thanks to the price. After all, if you're going to buy it eventually, you might as well get it for £45 instead of £120, or whatever it is. It was a pretty smart marketing strategy really.

Installed it on my main desktop this evening. Still got most of my apps & additional hardware left to install, but my internal media card reader seems to dislike Windows 7 (driver issue). Other than that, the initial install was ridiculously fast, less than 20 mins for a completely clean installation! My desktop is running Win7 Pro (64-bit).

Of course, it begs the question of why it normally sells for £120 or whatever at all.

Annoyingly my gf’s DELL XPS wouldn’t install the drivers for the 64-bit edition in the installation part when I managed to get the dvd drive to boot up properly from the disc yet the 32-bit disc worked perfectly.

In the Dell setup, it said YES to 64-bit ???

What gives ?

Sometimes the drivers aren't installed automatically :fp: You have to do the legwork and find the drivers for the bit it needs.

You should never expect Windows do have drivers for all your hardware on the disk, let alone up to date ones.

Indeed but I can't understand why the 64-bit disc has the drivers missing ??

Because to have drivers for every possible bit of hardware would take a whole lot more than a DVD.

They haven't removed one. Just not added it. Perhaps the 64bit version wasn't finished by the time the final build was done?
