I game just as much as I always have. I'm fortunate in that my wife games as much as I do, so I don't have the guilt of neglecting her on my mind if I spend a few hours racing upstairs or something. We also play a lot of games together, sometimes actual multiplayer stuff, sometimes one of us playing single player while the other watches along (Kenneth.jpg).

What I DO feel guilty about is neglecting my other hobby of music In favour of a long gaming session. Sometimes I'll spend a lot of time playing something, get nowhere and think I should have spent that time playing guitar instead.

Is the creative process for It's Strawberry Floating Christmas II underway yet, dude?

Great, interesting games are being released all the time, probably at a greater rate than they were when I was a teenager really. Any type of audience can generally be catered to these days, you just have to look beyond the biggest titles that are always going to be catered more towards kids with huge amounts of free time.

There are periods where I don’t tend to boot anything up or be able to stick with one thing but it usually isn’t for the long term. Things like the Steam Deck can do a lot to make playing something in short bursts much easier and have really given a lot of people a bit of a second chance with the hobby overall.

Also video games just aren’t a particularly great form of entertainment when you can’t dedicate a huge amount of time to them, compared to films and TV, and I think it’s absolutely fine to drop them if they get in the way of doing something else. An average game takes about 8-12 hours to finish, which is much longer than movies and is more like a whole season of a modern prestige TV series. Anything longer than that, like a 50 hour RPG or open world game, is probably just something you should be ok with potentially never completing.

My long-distance partner is also into gaming, so every evening we spend a couple of hours talking on Whatsapp speakerphone, while we play on our Xboxes. We don't necessarily play online either, we often just play single player games, but just chat while we're gaming.

I don't play as often as I used to because I have other things going on, but I don't love games any less. I stay away from the AAA scene and newest consoles and there are still more games I want to play than I can keep up with, both new releases and from the past 40 years. Steam Deck has also been a huge positive.

52. What do I play at the moment? Lords of the Fallen 2014 which I've already platinumed. Nothing else appeals. A bit of ZX Spectrum fun but not much else.
