Will there be a a list of the local parties main policies at the Voting Stations?

I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to my local parties, but know what I want to hear (Keeping the QE2 hospital open, and following through of the planned rejuvenation of the town centre)

I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing not. They're fairly indescript places inside, and I don't think they'd allow any 'propoganda' in the polling stations.

If you go here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/general-election-2010 and put in your postcode, it'll bring up your local constituency and you can see the candidates. Going to their pages should bring up some info, links to their sites, etc and list some of their key policies.

To those of you who aren't voting because 'they're all a bunch of twats' etc etc...You should go in and spoil your ballot, if that's how you feel.

Spoiled ballots are counted and noted for each election. Just think of it as voting for the 'We Hate Everyone' party.

Thanks Guys, appreciate the advice (and gif)

I'm going to ask one more really stupid question. and I apologise now in advance.

Let's say for instance, I like the Tory's policy for my home borough, yet like the Lib Dems policies overall for Government. Am I voting for one tomorrow, or both? Do I vote twice, or will my one vote count for both overall?

I know it's a stupid question. but I've never had an interest before, and then suddenly I hit 30 and feel it's my duty.

You're only voting for the MP in the area you live and the council. Unfortunately we can't directly vote for a leader, american style.

You'll get two ballot papers, one for the MP and one for the council.

Good to see that you're finally voting. Just remember, when you go inside the polling station tomorrow the first thing you have to do is get your cock out and rub some ink on it. Then, when you get into the booth, slap the penis hard on the candidate's name that you want to win. Otherwise technically you've broken the law. They'll try to tell you to stop and give you a pen, but this just a trick to make sure you're smart enough to vote, don't fall for it.

I voted this weekend, for my hometown of Burnley rather than where I've actually lived for the last 7 years ¬_¬.

Lib Dem innit.

Russell Field (Lib Dem) for Coventry North-East and Brian Patton (Lib Dem) for Coventry city council. Might as well say it now because unless one or both of them take a giant piss through my letterbox overnight, I don't see that situation changing.

I know what you're saying and, just in case you or anyone is a little confused it works like this...

You'll vote for an MP who represents one of the parties, for your area. Whoever wins gets that 'seat' and the party with most seats well... wins the election more or less. So if you want Labour in power even though your local Labour MP is an arse then, yep... you need to vote for him, as he represents Labour in that area.

You also vote for your local council and that's seperate. To be honest though, I'm not really sure about the council side of things...

Ah, OK, so with my above example, I like the Local Tory policies, but want Lib Dem to win, do I vote Tory for my local council, and then Lib Dem as the MP?

Can't believe how ignorant I am to all this. I'm quite an intelligent and learned chap usually.

Not voting. Living in the Czech Republic, don't pay attention to British politics as they're utterly inconsequential as far as I'm concerned (politicians are no longer accountable for anything and have all basically occupied the same middleground, it seems) and because I'm not in the UK and can't be bothered with the faff of registering to vote from overseas.

If I was voting I'd probably go Tory just because I think a change of leadership is sorely needed. Labour have gone with soft with no decent opposition, as it were.

It'd be nice to see the Lib Dems do it, but I have a feeling even people who want to vote Lib Dem will see it as a wasted vote.

Haven't voted yet. Was going to this morning, but the missus wants us to got together. :fp: In a safe Labour seat, so I don't think my vote will have any significant impact.

But I'll be voting for them anyway.

Better the devil you know.

I had hoped for better things from you. After 13 p*sspoor years of the NuLabour experiment, with a permatanned and newly-enriched Blair now off gallivanting around the world making his $millions off the back of a completely illegal war waged mostly on defenseless civilians, after 13 years of relentless assault on UK civil freedoms by a determined government hell-bent on erasing any last trace of true 'democratic' expression in this country (and they have over 3000 new laws to prove the point), after the debacle of Brown's 'prudent' Chancellorship of a now ruined economy... Afghanistan... etc... etc...

And you're still convinced they're somehow better than any of the alternatives?

Yes.

I'd fear for the NHS under the Conservatives. And I'd fear for my wage packet under the Lib Dems.
