http://www.astraweb.com/ is my favourite News Server because you can choose a PAYG option. A one off payment of £16/$25 will get you 180GB worth of downloads. That's a lot of shows considering an SD rip of a 45 minute show is usually around 0.35GB. I'd say I download quite heavily, but that lasts me ages.

To search for files you'll want to pay a one off cost of about £8 to become a VIP member for life at http://nzbmatrix.com/ which will allow you to download .NZB files that are as old as 1500 days.

Less than £25 for super fast speeds. Easily justified.

Blocknews.net is cheaper for metered usage. The supernews.com special rate is the cheapest monthly rate.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Thanks. I suppose it's not bad for free, but still quite limited. Ive used Wupload a couple of times today. It doesnt seem too bad, but theres a long wait (20 minutes) between downloads.

The other great thing about usenet is the ease of automation. Once you've set up an RSS for your shows they just download automatically overnight and are ready for you the next day. And since you're getting stuff within hours of it being posted, using your ISP's free usenet with shitty retention doesn't matter.

Never heard of blocknews.net, will probably give them a go, £14 for 200gb of downloads beats £16 for 180gb of downloads. Thanks for the heads up Winckle.

I really must get around to setting up RSS for Usenet. How easy/difficult is it?

Check out my YouTube channel!

No worries, I bought 2TB off them in January 2010, and it's just starting to run out now for me (75GB left). For $90 I can't complain.

Also, there are better sources of nzb files than nzbmatrix (though I have a VIP account there just in case.)

http://nzb.su
http://nzbs.org (though i'm not sure if registration is still closed)

For stuff too obscure to be in an nzb, you can get raw searching at http://binsearch.info , but when I saw raw, I mean it, totally unfiltered.

I use sickbeard to schedule downloads and didn't find it too difficult, but the pms I've had from Pedz tell me your milage may vary.

Depends on your source, if it's something like nzbs.org you just build a custom search with all your show names in it, limited to category TV or TV-xvid or tv-x264, then go to your profile page, grab the my saved searches rss link and pop in to any reasonably modern client like unzbin or sabnzbd+ (though sab is pretty complex software, i'd stick to unzbin for now). On mac os x I like nzbvortex, but it's $10.

Yeah I use sickbeard, but I definitely don't recommend that for a beginner.

One day i'd love to set up a little media server by my router and offload sabnzbd+ and sickbeard to it. Running Linux ofc.

It is lovely turning on my PC in the morning and having everything I want just pull itself off the usenets with no intervention.

Hi. We have no records on you.
This means you are using a private torrent tracker or, of course, you may not be a torrent user at all! It happens.

#UsenetSupremacy

(I actually don't know if frequent torrent users or Megaupload users will show up in this btw, got no idea how accurate it is)

I don't even try to hide my tracks or avoid public trackers, yet the only thing it's got on me is Boardwalk Empire S02E11 from December. 8-)

I downloaded a load of torrents the day MU went down (as my uni has a download limit and disables torrents) yet I'm still showing nothing

I've got nothing.

Pretty much 99% of my torrents are from Demonoid though.

EDIT: Also, I found this thread just to mention how amazing the spanish rap is in Community. I've just got up to the episode where Jack Black appears and starts to study with them, and when studing, just reads out the lyrics to the rap.

Well according to that site I (or someone at this address) downloaded "Big Sean - Finally Famous" back in November. I don't even know what that is....
