Yea both okay games. Funny in the first few years of the SNES that a large majority of the games released had 'SUPER' in the title.

The same happened with the N64 and '64'

Indeed, I downloaded it for an emulator a few years ago and it just wasn't the same. Even with the money cheat in place.

I still like that version for it's simplicity and accessibility. I love the quaint little musical pieces too.

Anyone think it is worth getting the Super Famicom Classic Controller off ebay for the authentic experience or is the classic controller sufficient?

I paid £35 for mine and feel like an absolute loon for doing so, but on the other hand it makes SNES VC games a joy to play, to the point I can't use the classic controller on them any more. It's wonderful

Too true. The slowness of the game actually gave me a mild RSI, as I was subconsciously pressing all the buttons really hard.

Has anyone played Dharma Doujou? It's an obscure Japanese puzzle game that I randomly acquired in my huge ROM collection. It's really good and so addictive. Here's a clip - it's a pretty simply premise:

By far, my favourite console of all time...hell, I love it so much I have three of them - the European one which I got some 16 years ago, an American SNES Junior and a Japanese Super Famicom. Usually I wouldn't do such a thing but being my favourite console, I decided I would not put up with the inferior treatment that we, PAL gamers, endured through many years. So when I found out an American SNES Junior on eBay with relatively low shipping fees, I was all over it and shortly after grabbed a copy of Chrono Trigger. You might say "It's on PS as well" and now it's even on DS...yes, but for me, it has to be played on a SNES, following strict orthodox rites last year I grabbed FF3 [meaning, 6] with box and instructions for a nice 25 euros, hehe

However, one thing was missing - sure, the American SNES is great but American games are usually expensive, especially if you are looking for the full package with box and instructions...this requires going for the Japanese versions...if my American SNES was the original model, it would be easy - I'd just need to cut off the two plastic bits next to the cart slot to slide in the Japanese cart...but the SNES Jr. has two more obstacles, two other pieces of plastic which are not so easy to get rid off, so I played it safe and I got a completely yellow and dirty Super Famicom without any cables except for the transformer [which is actually a European Mega Drive transformer...] which costed 15 euros...

So my policy about looking for SNES games is the following:

- games without much text and which are fairly easy to understand --> Japanese version, it's much easier finding them boxed and with instructions, not to mention they are usually in a better condition

- RPGs --> US or European versions, which is kind of bad because this means I'll never be able to play Tales of Phantasia on any of my SNES...

- games which I already own in European version and want to own in NTSC for speed reasons --> usually Japanese, I did this with F-Zero and the difference is remarkable; next up, Mario Kart!

This is my video of Mute City and Big Blue, Japanese version. My performance isn't as good as I'd like it to be, but I always underperform when I'm playing with the console connected to the PC...meh. Compare the race times to the European version and see the difference.

I tried setting my SNES up the other day actually, sadly I seem to have lost the power cable so couldn't.

I'll discount Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island from my options, given that I have only played through the GBA versions.

Admittedly, I'm not too fond of a lot of the SNES catalogue. I think Super Metroid is the best SNES game that I've played, though there were occasions when I felt some of it was a bit stuffy--a vibe I got from a lot of PAL SNES games. In that respect, the Donkey Kong Country series somehow came away feeling a lot cleaner--probably because of the quality of the music.

Didn't get on with A Link to the Past or the Mario RPG at all, though their respective forms on the N64 were responsible for some of my fondest virtual experiences.
