It's an excellent console, I must admit I was pretty late to the party since I didn't get a Snes until 1996. The Mario All Stars/Mario World cartridge kept me going for ages!

I was also very fond of the Donkey Kong Country games, and dare I say it - Killer Instinct!

Love the SNES so much i have 2. One which i have owned form new, and one which i can actually use reliably (i spilt sherry over my first one.... why was i drinking sherry at 14?)

A great console which fitted in at the perfect point in my life when videogames > everything. The internet had not ruined gaming and ridiculous claims at that point either (hence me playing 200 SF2 vs fights in a row because my mate promised me it would unlock sheng long).

I remember those days when everyone in the playground would talk about the rumours they heard about various games then you would rush home to try them out

your absolutely right! Most of the happy memories form my childhood right up to now seem to involve gaming (and sherry to some extent), and the SNES is the one i look back to the most fondest of all.

So as a gamer who missed out on the SNES what are the best games I could get for it that are available on the VC, apart from super mario world, zelda alttp and the donkey kong games?

Indeed, I downloaded it for an emulator a few years ago and it just wasn't the same. Even with the money cheat in place. :(

There are loads of great RPGs on the SNES, which is great as its my favourite genre, but unfortunately a large percentage are import only (not a problem for me, I have a converter) and/or cost a bomb nowadays.

Some classics:
EarthBound
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy III (really VI)
Chrono Trigger
Secret Of Mana
Shadowrun
Tales Of Phantasia
Illusion Of Time
Dragon View
Live-A-Live
Treasure Of The Rudras
Secret Of Evermore
Seiken Densetsu 3

I'm sure there are others like Dragon Quest and Ultima games as well. SNES rocks!

I didn't get my SNES until 1999. To this day I prefer the Megadrive but buying the SNES allowed me to play those exclusive games I missed out on first time round. I'm probably the only person who doesn't buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo first party games (mostly)

Easily the best console I have owned. Sooooo many AAA games. Earthbound was a great RPG, complete with 'scratch and sniff' guide. I was such an idiot selling it when the PS1 came out.

I also remember paying £75 for Street Fighter 2 on import. I think I also imported Stunt Race FX for £50 odd. That was an immense game too.

When the game first came out in America I got an import copy of Super Mario Kart that was about £70+ from a shop in Walthamstow :D
