Super Mario World is not only the pinnacle of 2D platforming, it's also by far the best Mario game ever created.

I've had my snes for 12 years now and in the last years I have tried out a lot of games for it.
Super Matroid, Castlevania IV, Yoshi's Island, Super MArio World and Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2 are all classics.
Earthworm Jim 2, U.N.Squadron, Starwing and kirby's fun pak are all really good.
And then there are the other good games I have plaed on it like Magical Quest, super ghosts n ghouls, batman returns, pop n twinbee and so on.

Ohhhh yeah totally got a SNES, arrived yesterday. I have Super Mario World (my favourite Mario game), Super Mario Allstars and Starwing so far. Got my eyes on plenty of games though, looking to build my collection up gradually over time. Currently interested in getting Illusion of Time.

I haven't played illusion of time but I heard it is pretty good. If you want some reasonably cheap titles then go after the likes of Magical Quest Starring Micky Mouse, Tiny Tonn Adventures, Super Star Wars (I didn't like it but you will like it if you don't mind hard games), Killer Instinct (again I didn't like this but you might), arcade ports like street fighter 2 turbo. There is a lot of stuff worth going after on snes.
Judt look around, ask around and you will learn the good snes games quite quickly, if you can get the likes of yoshis island, super probotector and the DCK games for less than a tenner each then great.

I've already played a lot of SNES games way back when I had a SNES (well my dad did) and some on emulator, I'm only just starting to actually make a collection. I think I saw the Mickey Mouse game in my local game shop cheap which I've heard about, will probably check it out, along with Killer Instinct and Street Fighter II Turbo. I've been lurking on ebay, don't want to spend much now but I plan on getting all the main games (like Donkey Kong Country, Zelda, Yoshi's Island, some stuff like that) and then simply going through lists of auctions to see any other cheap games I'd be interested in. Many of these I haven't played at all either so I do look forward to some of them. Illusion of Time is excellent but I've never finished it, I look forward to getting it hopefully. I want to get Soul Blazer and Terranigma too. Soul Blazer, I can't even see on ebay, only USA copies (it definitely came out in the UK too), so I bet whenever one PAL copy pops up on ebay it'll sell for a huge amount so I probably won't get it. Terranigma seems to pop up often, there's usually at least one or two copies floating around, if you're willing to go about £20-£30 on it.

Nice one Exodist :) Illusion of Time is a great game, one I need to get back to. I saw Terranigma go for about £22 on ebay the other day, that's one I'll have to grab at some point.

Regarding Soul Blazer, I don't think it got a wide release in PAL territories, I heard from someone it was only released in Germany/France or something like that.

Also; I was playing Starwing a week or so back, terrific game. I can't help but physically swerve to and fro while playing it though

Not to complicate things, but you might want to look into getting your SNES modded so it can play imports and (most importantly IMO) games in 60Hz. It does add some unfortunate extra cost (and makes you curse people living in NTSC regions for having it so easy!) but might be worth it in the long run. http://www.consolepassion.co.uk can do it for you if you have no technical know-how. I'll be going home next weekend to a Mega Drive modded by them

I've been thinking of getting an ntsc snes for two reasons (cheaper, faster games) but I'm in no hurry.

Super metriod.

there was gaming before this, which was good.

then there was gaming after this, which made gaming very hard, as i compared everything to it.

i started my 16 bit gaming life with a mega drive, then about 94 got a SNES of my own, a year later geting a saturn, but that year was the best 16 bit gaming ever, and metroid sits atop that, closely followed by castlevania 4 (bought to me by my gran who bought me the original on the NES, good call for the lady) zelda and the marios and the street fighters. honestly, when i got it i really didn't play my mega drive other than mirco machines 96 it was idle cuz it couldn't compare with metriod, it rocked by 9 year old life.

then nintendo made me wait 7 odd years before the next big hits fusion and prime. the one reason i waited so long before getting a N64, no metroid, no N64.

According to Wiki, Soul Blazer sold about 25,000 copies in PAL terratories which is not a lot at all, I guess thats how many they made (in contrast Illusion of Time sold about 150,000), espcially considering the other languages. I'll keep an eye out, see if I see an English copy, seems very elusive though. Import is definitely something I might look at. My proclaimed favourite game ever is Earthbound (I have Mother 1+2 on GBA so I own it officially in some form at least), I'd love to have it but its so expensive and of course wasn't released in the UK. Its a dream I have albeit a very expensive and unlikely one. I also think the game is similar to Super Mario RPG in which it is practically impossible to play on anything other than an NTSC SNES.

I had a go on Starwing earlier, found it a little hard. Was a bit difficult to get the aim right but I have played it a while back and did all three paths fine, I just need to practice though but yeah its a pretty impressive game for its time. I had a go at Path 2 and was quite impressed in the asteroid level, dodging all of those pillars in first person and stuff.

I prefer Yoshi's Island to Mario World. It's more linear but it just has more innovation, I think. More ways to interact with your environment, greater variety of obstacles, power ups, etc, and much more charm in the graphics and animation.

I've only played through Yoshi's Island once, when it came out on the GBA. Well, we used to have it when I was a kid but yeah don't remember much. I loved it on GBA though and I'm definitely looking to get the SNES version, but I do think its just as good as Super Mario World, I think I just have more memories of World, personal nostalgia and all that.

I didn't like KI at all. It was good enough I suppose but I'm too into Capcom and SNK stuff to like it.

Nothing needs to be said about DCK.

Hope you enjoy those RPG's all the snes RPG I want are expensive.

I didn't play enough Illusion of Time. It's something I'd definitely get again if it were ever to appear on VC, or I'll get my bro to dig out his SNES so I can continue (should the saves still be there.)

All I can remember about KI is a Sabrewulf infinite (away > toward + punch, LP, LP, repeat)

Think that's how it went anyway
