On the side of the supply it says 800W ATX Power Supply www.buyXG.com and I believe that's Xtreme Gear?

I won't state the company who built the rig here just yet... although I am beginning to lose my temper with them at a reasonable rate!

prebuilds tend to use lower quality components, and this is an example of such. When you build your own PC you'd only bother with Antec, Corsair, or another trusted high quality brand.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Send it back, demand a refund and build your own with the money.

Somebody bought a Dell piece of gooseberry fool and is now asking for help?

Prebuilds...known for their robust stability and ease of use. Someone call that calculator to this thread so he can see how wrong he is

Shame really, when you buy individual parts you get a warranty for each thing... Plus, most parts have more than a year warranty too.

Should have called them ASAP. You're still protected by the sale of goods act. Call them, be polite and calm, knowing people who buy prebuilds you probably spent a fuckton of money on it, so complain, and go to small claims court if you're willing. The sale of goods act doesn't mean you only get a mandatory years warranty backed up by the law. You get a reasonable time of warranty and the more you spend, the more likely it is that the manufacturer owes you a higher level of quality with your purchase.

If you buy parts, you get a three year warranty on almost all the components.

Let this be a lesson for people who keep droning on about prebuilt computers. Once your warranty is up, dell will avoid at all costs of trying to help you out, unless you're willing to pay bucks.

That said, if you find that your supplier is being unreasonable, this might be the perfect opportunity to get your hands dirty, and swap out the power supply for something better yourself.

The PSU is a pretty fundamental component, touching virtually every single part of your system, either directly via a cable, or by proxy via a component it does touch.

The really surprising thing is that these connections are very easy to make, roughly on the same level as Lego.

Companies love to pretend that their “warranties” only cover you for a year, but it is simply not true. The sale of goods act will cover you on this as it is not unreasonable to expect a PC to last more than a year, it actually allows for around 6 years!

The template letters in the link below are quite good if a phone call quoting the sale of goods act doesn’t work.

http://codeyear.com/

I'm giving this a go.

I know a little HTML (who doesn't?) but nothing remotely serious.

Thought it might be useful in a general knowledge kind of way.

Anyone know how to have separate backgrounds on multiple displays and/or have the taskbar running across both?

Note to self: Do not leave PC idling in the house, in this weather, when out, and with the windows shut.

Idling at 50 degrees. This room works like an oven if I leave the windows shut. :x

Anyone know if there's actually a way to change the desktop background on Windows 7 starter?

my sister got a netbook a couple of months ago and really hates the fact that she can't change her desktop.
