Taking from the (it seems the only) fairly plausible Mac source, showing a chop of the rumoured iPhone Nano:

If that was true (I can't see it being yet, but you never know), I'd certainly be rather interested. The iPhone's a little too huge so a smaller one would be pretty nice.

Having said that, a smaller screen is going to make typing even more awkward than it already is.

The only reason Apple released a smaller iPod was because there were minature hard drives (iPod mini) which allowed it to do so. This was replaced with iPod nano when flash memory became cheap enough to put in there and it got thinner again.

iPhone ALREADY HAS this flash memory. The other components inside the phone are already minaturised as far as possible, which means this image is fake.

Plus, if Apple did release an iPhone like this it would have to feature some sort of caveat to make the larger one stay desireable. From what I can see this is just someone using the scale tool in Photoshop.

Don't trust MacRumors, they regularly post utter gooseberry fool.

I know most their entries are bollocks, but because Apple's asshole's fairly tight when in regards to announcements (simply go to an Apple and hear any of their employees look brainwashed and routinely say "they don't tell us nothing" to prove a point) and other sites of a similar nature being totally wank in comparision, Macrumors is the only place to visit when it comes to these things. And to be fair they get a fair few things spot on.

As for the iPhone nano, I predict it is to the iPhone 3G what the MacBook is to the MacBook Pro. It will aimed to the more casual consumer who would love the Apple appeal of the iPhone but refuse to pay the premium price, I think it would be similar to the Samsung Tocco, with basic run o'the mill cellphone function and limited app capabilities.

Oh my strawberry floating word, it is even more impressive in use than the demo videos I saw before! :o

Yeah, it's quite impressive.

I noticed after updating to the latest firmware, podcasts are now sorted from old to new, with the latest being at the bottom. Wtf? :?

That is annoying, but they've finally added Podcasts to the app store :D

Yeah, finally! I always wondered why that wasn't there from the beginning.

Good point.
It's not like technology is getting smaller and smaller with every given year or anything, is it?

Well you have to look at the difference in size. Of course, there will always be room to scale things down a bit, but if there were products on the market which would allow this sort of size reduction then Apple and others would already be using them in their devices.

Hard drives in iPod were always the largest component (alongside the display and battery), which is why when they were replaced with flash memory there was such a massive difference. The others are really tiny already, that's my point. For this sort of size reduction you would need to scale down every single component by a good margin, and as far as I am aware, that's simply not possible - especially the battery.

For once, I'm with Fishfingers here, unless the iPhone was intentionally large from the beginning, I call bullshit.

Like I said before, it's not completely impossible if they aim it not as a direct Mini replica of the iPhone 3G, but like a MacBook is to a MacBook Pro. Similar to a Samsung Tocco or a LG Cookie, a normal bog standard functioning cellphone in the guise of a touchscreen with limited app capabilities and the Apple image to boot as well as a lower more attractive pricetag aimed at the casual consumer. Meaning it has limited on-board storage, but expandable via a memory card slot.

As for the picture, I never claimed it to be real in the first place I already said it's a chop.

Not if the tech is still too expensive to implement. Apple and the iPod are famed for using rather low-end tech in the gadgets. It's the same approach Nintendo took with the Wii.

It's not impossible that this will happen. A smaller one may have fewer features, like bluetooth and GPS and stuff, which will also cut down on size.

iTunes is being a bitch, it won't let me add certain music, it's the right format but it won't add. I'm not happy with my iPod, first it loses everything from the library then iTunes starts playing up, only had it 2 months. :fp:

They class a gigabyte as a 1000 megabytes when in fact its 1024 megabytes, so they say its 8GB but in computing terms it isn't.

I've spent absolutely hours on the internet on my iTouch since I've had it... and not once have I had to pay for it.
I dunno why you'd think you have to pay, unless you're on WIFI in a pub/hotel/airport or something.

Oh, ok, cheers for that. I was just thinking, because on my phone you have to pay to go on some mobile phone versions of sites. And the ipod touch uses the same sort of system. As well as that when i went onto the Youtube bit it said something about accounts, can't quite remember though.

Ah well, good news! :D

I'd like to wholeheartedly recommend a logic puzzle game I just downloaded called Marple. Only £1.19. Looks a bit confusing to start with, but once you get the hang of it, it's brilliant.

Also finally got round to buying the full version of Labyrinth.

Anyone tried Sim City? I'm tempted, but it would be good to hear some first-hand opinions.
