I'd be tempted by one of those kits. Especially one of the Les Paul kits.
Seeing as it's a Mahogany body and maple top and a proper glued in set neck, you've got the base for a nice guitar.
This one has quite an attractive Spalted maple top:
Sure the Electronics, Tuners, Nut, Pickups might not be much good, but those are easily upgraded.
And for the price, it's pretty good value for a blank wooden canvas to work from.
Stick some Seymour Duncans in it, some Sperzel tuners and I'd be quite confident that it'd be a nice guitar to play.
I could buy it and be the test rabbit for it
