The British Office is depressing. There, I said it.

I think it explores some of the characters much better than the UK one. Dwight is a weak link, far too often being too 'out there' to be funny, but the way it explores why Jim torments him so much makes Jim into a pretty sad character at times which is pretty brave. Plus, the UK version is largely carried by Brent in a way that the US's isn't carried by Michael.

The UK is a better show, but I think the US is more rounded.

it explore some of the characters better? You cant compare character exploration between the 2. The show's characters arent the same.

Yes they are.

Don't even try and pretend that they're not.

Are you genuinely going to try and tell me that;

Brent = Michael
Tim = Jim
Gareth = Dwight
Dawn = Pam

Isn't perfectly true?

strawberry float me, even Keith = Kevin.

They have near identical storylines and are, to all intents and purposes, the same character. And the US version explored those characters better.

But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Not all comedy has to be uplifting (which is a bit contrary but you know what I mean).

I know, and the episodes I've seen are really well done, but it's just not my thing. They go a bit too far for me. I'm a sucker for the American homeliness of the other version.

The thing I don't like about the American Office is that it just feels like an average sitcom, it doesn't try to be realistic and it doesn't try to look like a documentary which is what made the original so great.

I saw the first 3 seasons of the US office because I kept getting told that the next season was better but honestly I didn't notice any improvement apart from the first episode which is much weaker than all of the others.

It's certainly not bad, there were be a couple of funny moments in each episode, but also loads of moments where it's just too stupid or over the top to be funny. With the original office every single sentence and facial expression is perfect and I laugh all the way through every episode.
