10. The Da Vinci Code, chapter 4: Five months ago, the kaleidoscope of power had been shaken, and Aringarosa was still reeling from the blow.

Did they hit him with the kaleidoscope?

Dan Brown is so fail.

Read on. Someone associates the Halo series with Big Brother and the decline of culture.

I can't believe you would make this kind of error; you're contributing to the decline of GRcade.

Oh boo hoo a SPG mistake on an internet forum.

At least I don't read Dan Brown.

At least I'm not a pretentious twat. :)

If being a pretentious twat means I'm not the sort of sewer dwelling eejit who watches Big Brother, thinks the Halo series are the best games ever, and reads Dan Brown, then I'm totally in.

No, being a pretentious twat means that you can not resist telling people that they are wrong and you are right. Over and over and over again. In the thread that you are supposed to not be interested in.

Although further investigation revealed more gold.

This book is turning into a clone of DVC. Still good though.

Also, I found out there is a Freemason lodge here in my town, and I think I know where it is. It is cleverly named "Masonic Hall", had a party there once. 8-)

Finished this last night, and to me it is certainly one of his weaker books. It's a thriller where nothing truly thrilling really happens, and feels like a clone of DVC. However its strengths lie in its ideas, which whilst far fetched at first were really well developed and truly fascinating. The last 20 or so pages, after the "final showdown" got me thinking more than his other works.

Spoilers:

The twist I did not see coming, about Mal'akh. Truly blew my mind. Mal'akh has to be the most interesting villain Brown has ever conceived. Though the finale was a bit anti climatic, almost cheesy.

The location of the lost symbol/bible was awesome, though I was expecting it to be hidden beneath the stone slab first laid by George Washington as the foundation of America.

Whilst in terms of action and being a page turner, it is not as strong as his previous works but the final segments more than make up for it. Everything comes full circle, making perfect sense and the revelation of all this masonic symbology hidden blatantly throughout the washington mall was astonishing.

It will surely make a terrible movie.

7/10.

Just finished it and it was alright, slow opening, pretty good middle but the end dragged on too long. The twist was the most bleeding obvious thing though, I saw it coming from miles back.

Did anybody else notice he kept making a big deal of Langdon's Claustrophobia?I thought the Jesus woman cured it in the Da Vinci Code, or whatever :/ Or did she only do that in the film? It's been too long since I read DVC...

I didn't think it was that bad, overall. Still no Angels and Demons, though.

I think it was in the book too. She didn't cure it, just gave Langdon a hard on.

Finished this today. The change in formula was appreciated though I still guessed the tattoo guy's identity long before it was revealed and the book took far too long to really get going.

Deception Point> Angels and Demons> The Lost Symbol> The Da Vinci Code> Digital Fortress

I never really got into Deception Point, I thought that his Langdon books seemed a lot stronger. Angels and Demons was phenomenal.
I still haven't purchased Digital Fortress, though. If it's worse than the Da Vinci Code, does that mean it's not worth it?

Digital Fortress kicked ass. Far, far more at stake than there was in The Lost Symbol. Throughout Lost Symbol they were like "omg this is a matter of national security go arrest Langdon lol" and was pretty underwhelmed when they revealed what the matter of national security was. It was a "is that it?" moment.
