I was quite surprised that is why I remembered it, it looked quite good from what I've seen.

At least they gave World of Goo a 9. If HOTD: Overkill is just 1/3 as good as WoG it will still be excellent.

But they also gave Lord of the Rings Conquest a 6. :|

We'll see.

Obscure Swedish mag gives odd score = wait for other reviews.

All other previews have been pretty glowing - I can only assume that it's ridiculously short and has no replay value, or something's fundamentally broken about the later stages.

OR the reviewer just doesn't like rail shooters.

One thing's for sure - Sega's Swedish PR rep is in for a whole heap of trouble.

The mag is pretty well known and respected in Sweden :?

I buy it when I'm over there. That and Play.

It's obscure to the rest of us, fella. The point I'm making is that it doesn't tally with impressions so far at all. I'm not saying it's NOT a 3/10 game, but at the same time, I think it's silly to be cancelling preorders.

I'll get my brother inlaw to buy the mag for me and to read me the review.

I wish I hadn't bought a zapper now. I would've definitely got the Bang Bang Box otherwise. :x

Am I right in saying the PAL version of The Big Bang Box is only available in Australia?

How can we obtain one of these special packs for a decent sum?

Do you think House of the Dead will be one of those "If you love light gun shooters, get it" games?

What can be better than shooting zombies in the face? Sign me up!

In all fairness, it's hard not to get a little alarmed by such a low review score. Hopefully the others won't follow suit.

Review from that well known source of video-gaming excellence.... Empire magazine! :fp:

Although the Wii's motion-sensitive controls have breathed new life into console gaming, players seduced by the eye candy of the Xbox 360 and PS3 will never turned on by Nintendo's rough and ready visuals. However, in accepting the Wii's limitations and using its cruder graphics to craft a unique mood, the latest House Of The Dead blaster stands head and shoulders above its hallowed forebears.

Ditching the serious approach of previous HOTD shooters in favour of cheesecake grindhouse presentation, Overkill's chunky graphics are disguised by scratchy film stock, choppy B-movie-style editing and a wealth of clever visual tricks that capture the look of an exploitation flick, the game's sharp sense of humour and classic porn soundtrack also helping to make this a must for fans of schlock cinema. In terms of gameplay little has changed - and the whole zombie mashing marathon can be completed in a little under three hours - but as a game that accepts the constraints of the platform it's running on and uses imagination, wit and hardcore violence to bewitch habitual gorehounds, Overkill is irresistible.

3/5
