bandwagon wrote:Wow, first place, go me. Really pleased with how my Normandy turned out too (even though it handles like a brick), glad it's done well in the voting. Also, could someone send me JK's Normandy, I'd love to have a closer look at it. The Jolly Roger looks tough to build and the test-o-track pool's going to be crowded next week.

Found the Igloo challenge to be a bit of a nightmare, started off making a big plow with all the trays on their side but couldn't figure out how to make it big enough to cover the whole igloo (how does that tow bar thing actually work?) and ended up sticking loads of grenade guns and torpediles on the front, absolutely flattening the igloo and then pushing the remaining blocks out. But even then there'd often be a single block up high that hadn't been knocked down.

Tow bars, when linked together work like a chain. The two parts aren't physically connect except for this chain. This loose connection allows things to swing because there are not structural supports between the two points. This can be applied to a giant kicking machine used a knee joint, JK's Normandy, to allow parts of the wing to sit diagonally (JK uses poles to lock the wings in at an angle) or to swing in some extra width for a igloo destroying vehicle.

I managed to get my vehicle stuck on top of the Orange ball stand with the ball upon it but me on the ground. :fp:

50 seconds. Managed this with one of my previously built machines with a couple of minor tweaks.

Bandwagon, I've just sent you my Normandy blueprints. I'm pretty proud of it. :)

Just about to crack on with the Jolly Roger. I watched Pirates Of The Caribbean last night for inspiration. 8-)

Sub-50 seconds time for the challenge, and I could probably do better. 8-)

Thanks very much. :)

Thanks for the explanation Roon, that's really clever. I wonder how many of the top challenge scores are done in ways Rare never envisioned.

this'll sound like a silly question but anyway.

Regarding the sumo and hurdles are weapons allowed?

Yep. How do you score in Sumo? Is it pushing others out or staying in the longest?

Also, Tiarny (The Alchemist Penguin) is 19th in the world at this on 41 seconds but is still twice as slow as first place.

You guys are going to make me go back to this and have another go, aren't you? :| I don't have the patience to do a perfect run. :x Built my ship today. Didn't use any reference material for a change so just built a generic pirate ship. Again, parts limit screwed me over so my original vision had to be cut down but I think it's turned out okay.

Probably a bit of both in sumo.

I think you only get points in Sumo for staying in the circle.

I cannot for the life of me do this challenge, it looks so easy on the leaderboard videos but my attempts keep going terribly wrong.

Challenge Challenge week 4

World's Strongest Bear

Three balls were placed around the jiggoseum in annoying places and it was up to the player to retrieve the balls and place them on a podium as quickly as possible, far harder than it sounds.

1 - Dalagonash – 32.31 (7th in the world!)
2 - T9Flake – 41.37
3 - JK – 49.23
4 - Roonmastor – 50.87
5 - Bandwagon – 55.27
6 - Seven 1:31:03
7 - StayDead – 1.53.83
8 - Mokeyjoe - 3.21.87

First place is awarded ten points, second 9, third 8, and so on.

The pro way –

A little memorization, a little skill, and a heaping of luck helped with this one however the best vehicles for the job are impressively intricate machines, with several break points and perfectly created to retrieve the balls with little trouble.

Feel free to discuss your vehicles, issues, and successes!

Replica Challenge 3 results

The Normandy was a mammoth task compared to the relatively simple curves Brum, the curves of this new sci-fi icon didn't translate easily to the lego-esque construction of Banjo's vehicles.

The winner this week was JK, the use of tow bars to add curve to the wings was a stroke of genius, well done sir! Commander Shepard would be proud.

Image

Those standings in full -

1 - JK - 34% (32)
2 - Bandwagon - 22% (20)
3 - Roonmastor - 18% (17)
4 - T9Flake - 12% (11)
5 - StayDead - 8% (7)
6 - Dalagonash - 6% (6)

A common feature were the excessive use of rear thrusters.
