Baines should be picked ahead of Cashley for the England team.

It's probably the trickiest position, Cashley has been fantastic every time he's played for England, probably our most consistent player over the last 8 years or so. Yet Baines is great for Everton, both defensively and going forward.

I'd probably let Cashley finish the Euros and then bring in Baines.

As for the captain I think Gerrard is the smartest choice for now, mostly because he's the least controversial choice - which I think is what they need at the moment. After the Euros the new manager will no doubt want to pick his own captain, at which point he should pick Hart.

Hargreaves gamble backfires
Mancini admits midfielder move has not worked out as planned

"We took a gamble on Owen because he was such a fantastic player," the City manager said.

"We thought we could try to get him fit in two or three months and then he would be able to play. But it hasn't worked out quite like that.

"When you have a player who hasn't played for two years and he starts to train every day there are small problems all the time. Problems in the knees or the hamstrings. So Owen hasn't been able to play when we have needed him.

"He may play again this season but he is not ready now. I hope eventually he will be able to play all the time. He deserves to, because he is a really nice guy."

Zero sympathy for him after he managed to finish a game uninjured and then accused Manchester United of not looking after him.

Exactly. United paid a fortune for him and got very few games from him in return he was well paid, and given all possible support throughout his time out. After all that for him to say what he did was a real banana split's trick.

Have you seen us recently? Although there is always the possibility of a thrashing, "Arsenal are back" etc. No Yakubu or Samba either...

1-0 to Arsenal.

Only get to watch the first half today before leaving for work which I start at 2, gonna be a close call. Then I have to hope that no one tells me the score, which is unlikely as every banana split talks to me about football.

Arsenal XI - Szczesny, Coquelin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Song, Arteta, Rosicky, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Van Persie (c)

Subs Fabianski, Sagna, Arshavin, Benayoun, Ramsey, Park, Henry.

Was good to see Ramsey playing well over the past couple of games but I'm glad he's getting a rest. Walcott should be dropped but I guess that'll have to wait until Gervinho returns. Hope Park gets a run out if we get comfortable

Interesting to see Van Persie start, I read a couple of Wenger quotes where hé said he was tempted to rest Van Persie and start either Henry or put Theo down the middle. I'm intrigued by how he'd do there to be honest. Would hé show glimpses that suggest that down the middle is 'his position' or would it just be the same old story.
