Why can't Newcastle or Middlesborough play in the first round of the League Cup? It doesn't seem fair.

Is it because they're really gooseberry fool or something?

If we look at what he did with old Henrik who was pretty much retired, you have to think he can probably get Owen scoring again. He is free, he wont cost much and give him the chance to play Champions League football in the North and he will snap your arm off. It has to be worth a gamble.

Would be a good replacement for Tevez, not like for like in everything they do, but I can see Owen getting important goals like Tevez did...

I wouldn't touch either of them, but wouldn't Ruud VN be a better bet in the ageing goal scorer on the cheap stakes.

Would you not go for Owen because of his injuries?

Yes to RvN (I've been wondering if it's possible he'd return, only...) but what about his falling out with Fergie? And didn't he leave because he didn't like being left out of the first team?

I just think Owen is past it. I can see someone taking one final punt on him, but it won't work out and I think that will be it for him. The injuries have taken their toll I'm afraid.

I couldn't see Ruud returning and I thought he was past it (as a first choice striker) when he left to be honest. I would think Fergie is more likely to put his eggs in the Macheda and Welbeck baskets if he needs some options.

Woohoo new season!

Pity it's still almost two months until the SPL starts though.

Falkirk at home for Rangers first day of the season and Celtic away to Aberdeen. That'll do me nicely.

Barnsley at home first game of the season, will be a good game but I'd of prefered for it not to be a derby. The next two matches will be interesting as well as they are both away, one at Peterborough and then at Newcastle. It was very weird seeing them on our fixture list.

It's probably because he's strawberry floating RUBBISH.

Darlington v Leeds in the first round of the Piss Cup is live on Sky. Predictable choice, but good times regardless.

Seriously is it me or do Spurs always get liverpool for either the first or last game of almost every season. There has to be some fault with the machine.
