Anyway, congrats to all! My sister managed 3 As and is off to Manchester.... well pleased for her (obv) but she beat me comfortably ( :( ; but then A levels are easier these days, right?)

They should pay more attention at interview to actually get to know you and not take these marks so inanely seriously - what if you were just ill or panicked and mixed one sentence up? Completely human to make these kinds of mistakes.. It's nuts.

I think they should re-interview by default if your marks are, say, 3 or 4 marks out of the required grade.

Just goes to show how little real intelligence is valued these days in favour of zealous adherance to logic systems.

Where do you draw the line though? Why not 5 or 6 or even 7 marks? That's the thing. Unfortunately someone will always scrape a pass and others will miss out by one mark. That's life.... (however harsh that sounds)

Manchester is a great uni, I spent three very happy years there! :D

Anybody going to Sheffield to do biological sciences? If so, you might end up in a practical session being taught by me... :shifty:

Congratulations on everyone who achieved the results they needed to get into uni. You are all a credit to your generation and the education system.

As a teacher I find it increasingly patronising when the media (most of whom are over 30) keep saying year after year that exams are getting easier when no-one stops to think that maybe kids are getting smarter and teaching methods have improved? Ignore the press as it makes you all sound stupid which is entirely false.

I'm often reluctant to praise a great deal of deep-seated teaching methods but perhaps the improvements there have been - namely in learning support for those with difficulties and the recognition of alternative learning styles - have resulted in a generally smarter and more fruitful younger population. I'd certainly like to think that.

Good that art school isn't only for the people what aint' no good at maths any more too. (I got good grades at maths, science and english subjects and still chose to persue art in the end).

I didn't get in Edinburgh. I needed BBB for Philosophy & English Lit and I got AAC.

I got a place at York through clearing though for History of Art so I'm happy.

I find the AAC/BBB situation even more silly. I suppose you're just lucky if your uni is more concerned with UCAS points than grades in specific subjects. I mean if one course desires your skill at 3 certain areas, if you're even better at 2 but aren't quite as successful at one - if only it were considered equal.

I didn't need any specific results. I'm only slightly gutted. Pleased I got into a good university on a good course. Just seeing how it all works out now as I reshape my life.

Isn't AAC actually worth more than BBB in UCAS points?

Yup. 320 compared to 300 I think.

Plus I had another A in Ancient History for AS. So I got 380 points.

So if you uni doesn't require specific grades, why does it care about you getting more UCAS points? I thought most unis just counted UCAS points and paid attention to maybe one or two relevant qualifications?

I never used UCAS points, my offer was on grades alone. What's an A and a B worth?

Most top universities go purely on grades. Otherwise you could do 6 A levels, get 360 UCAS points on Bs and Cs and get into Oxford.

Full A level A is 120, then 20 down from that for each grade less I think. So B is 100, C is 80.

For AS standalone an A is 60, then 10 less for each grade lower.
