The Princess Bride (US BD) in March

March 2009 priced at $34.99 SRP. This fairytale directed by Rob Reiner and written by William Goldman comes to Blu-ray with the following features:

* 1080P Widescreen
* English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio
* French Dolby Surround and Spanish Mono
* English, French and Spanish subtitles
* Audio Commentary by Rob Reiner
* Audio Commentary by William Goldman
* As You Wish: The Story of The Princess Bride
* Cary Elwes Video Diary
* Miraculous Makeup
* The Dread Pirate Roberts: Greatest Pirate of the Seven Seas
* Love is Like a Storybook
* The Princess Bride The Untold Tales featurette
* The Art of Fencing featurette
* Fairytales and Folklore featurette
* Original theatrical trailer
* Easter Eggs
* DVD copy of the film

As you can see from that last extra, MGM are dabbling with the ‘combo’ idea by including a DVD version of the film in the package.

The artwork below is not final, it's from the Blu-ray MGM announced for release in 2007...

The disc is out of print so people will keep asking for insane prices until they release a new batch at some point in the future unfortunately.

Indeed, Disney DVDs are very weird like that. They have very limited runs and become like gold-dust to get hold of.

Nope. Bruce Campbell was on Jonathan Ross' radio show yesterday and claimed it was being shown in cinemas from valentines' day. It's a very limited release apparently. :(

Sorry no official word yet though they were actually rumoured to be released last year so hopefully a release wont be too far away.

Fox have been absolutely useless with HD so far.

I wouldn't expect them any time soon, especially not this year.

It's not that FOX have been useless with HD, they are worried they won't sell without some sort of big release tie in. (example...Die Hard 1,2 & 3 Blu Ray were released a couple of weeks after DH4.0 Blu Ray)

But that's just my take on it, it's entirely possible they will announce the BR releases tomorrow/very soon.

Up until now I couldn't really care less about Blu-ray and that, but I've just seen that True Romance is soon (well, May) to be released. Details in spoiler below.

True Romance (Unrated)

* 1080P 2.40:1 Widescreen
* English and French DD5.1 Surround*
* English, French and Spanish subtitles
* Behind the Story
o Commentary by Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette
o Commentary by Tony Scott
o Commentary by Quentin Tarantino
o Selective Commentary: [BD]
+ Val Kilmer
+ Dennis Hopper
+ Brad Pitt
+ Michael Rapaport
* Original 1993 EPK Featurette
o Behind-The-Scenes (Interactive featurette RT 5:12 plus 5 short pods within the piece) [SD]: During the this featurette a heart icon will appear on the screen which allows viewers to click enter taking them into another small featurette once the pod is over the original featurette will continue where it was left off
* Additional Footage:
o Deleted and Extended Scenes with Optional commentary by the Director (play all option) [SD]
o Alternate Ending with optional commentary by the Director and Writer (RT 6:21) [SD]
* Theatrical Trailer (RT 1:57) [SD]

What am I looking at for a decent Blu-ray player? £200 or thereabouts?

You should get back in the game Mitch Yost.

My Name Is Bruce is out now on bluray in the US and is region free* - it's £15.99 on http://www.playusa.com for anyone who want's it a bit earlier for a reasonable price.

*According to http://www.movietyme.com - my copy is on the way from them so I can confirm when it arrives.. if anyone orders it and it's not region free then it's movietyme's fault not mine :)

Any Bruce fans should check this video out too - the Q&A he did at a screening of the film in London a few days ago. The man is a legend 8-)

Fan: What did you think about Christian Bale's diatribe?

BC: It's out of context so we don't know what cheesed him off, obviously something very small.. as I understand it, he repeats himself quite a bit..... I dunno it's out of context he's probably a very lovely rich man.

Fan: He beat his mother..

Bruce: You don't know that.. were you there genius? He might've just kicked her down stairs or shoved butter up her nose..

:lol:

Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter (R2/UK BD) in April

Paramount Home Entertainment have announced the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter on 6th April 2009. From the director of Watchmen and 300 come two tales from the celebrated graphic novel that do not appear in the new Watchmen film. Tales of the Black Freighter (featuring the voice of 300’s Gerard Butler) brings to animated life the novel's story-within-a-story, a daring pirate saga whose turbulent events may mirror those in the Watchmens’ world. Stars from the Watchmen movie feature in the live-action/CGI Under the Hood, based on Nite Owl’s first-hand account of how the hooded adventurers came into existence.

Priced at £9.99 RRP on DVD and £14.99 RRP on Blu-ray Disc, both sets include the main feature (25mins) and special features (84mins). The DVD is presented in anamorphic widescreen with English DD5.1 Surround audio, while the Blu-ray is 1080P with English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio. Extras include:

* Under the Hood
* Story Within a Story: The Books of Watchmen - How Tales of the Black Freighter and Under the Hood connect to and expand the world of Watchmen, with a unique analogy to the character arc of Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias
* Watchmen Motion Comics: Chapter 1
* A First Look at DC Universe's animated Green Lantern
