Anti french/ anti english classics.

- Ah bonjour monsieur

- what?

- Bonjour monsieur. It's french.

So is eating snails, cruelty to geese and urinating in the street. That is no reason to inflict it on the rest of us.

- My french clientele think pies are uncouth

- I hardly think that a nation that eats frog's legs and would go to bed with the kitchen sink if it put on a tutu is in a postion to preach couthness.

Everyone knows we hate the french, we fight wars against them. Did all those men die in vain on the fields of Agincourt? Was the man who burnt Joan of Arc simply wasting good matches?

On the contrary, I hate you English with your shiny toilet paper and your boring trousers. And your ridiculous preconception that all frenchman are great lovers. I'm french and I'm hung like a baby carrot and acouple of petit pois.

What has the pimpernel done apart from rescue a few garlic chewing toffs from the ineffectual clutches of some malnourished whinging lefties?

Aye, Chris Barrie was in the one, if I remember correctly.

Wankers.

I always thought that was a deliberate part of the episode, as you couldn't say 'strawberry float' on the BBC in those days.

It was.The whole point of the joke is you know what she means, and it being completely out of character.

Lady Whiteadder emerges from beneath Queenie's frock, and proclaims that luck sounds rude, due to its sounding "almost exactly like 'fu-..'". This line, not just fu, has been cut out of re-runs of the show on G.O.L.D. You hear her laugh as she emerges and then the credits roll.

I saw that last night. She gets to say "haha! Luck?" before it cuts straight to the credits. :(

They bleeped out "tit" earlier in the episode as well. The tits.

Blackadder's just pure class. From the script to the acts to the delivery, so so good. Best sitcom for me, though I also love Fools' and Horses (up to "Time on our hands") and Father Ted. My top three for sure. So many classics and it seems that we'll never get much like it in the foreseeable future, as everyone goes for the cheap laughs and shock tactics today.

Thankee for confirming GOLD's butchery of Blackadder (it's been done to other shows on GOLD too).

I've seen that version of the episode so many times and it still pisses me off / takes me by surprise when it happens.

I'm still hoping that might one day drop to about £20. :shifty:

I've seen all four series countless times, thanks to my parents having taped the lot way back when. Blackadder II is just about the best, I think, followed very closely by Goes Forth and III. There's a massive gulf of quality between those and the first series, which feels like a completely different show. Almost every scene of the others is classic suff.

"Cup of coffee, Darling?"

...

"It's a barren, featureless dessert out there."
"Other side sir."

...

"Harold the horny hunter, had an enourmous horn."

...

"Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
