You need to play Driver 2. Just to appreciate how good games can be. As in, not that.

Another one from me:

I've been a fan of the GTA series since the first. But this one blew me out the water in terms of scale and depth. Although it's aged I still play this more than GTA4!

GTA San Andreas
Fire Emblem
Suikoden
Final Fantasy Tactics

Notes:
Half Life 2 was mentioned by Raxicori, Portal by Garth, and Team Fortress 2 by Dalagonash but Dodems wisely included all of them by going to The Orange Box, thus saving two spaces and allowing for the inclusion of Another World and Day Of Defeat Source.

The list is currently in chronological order. I may sort by Metacritic scores or something later.

I think some paring down may be required, too. I mean... Quake 2? Target Renegade?

edit: Fixed a botch around Nights

Does that mean we can't post anymore? :( I was about to say Final Fantasy VII and Shenmue II. Both games I started but never finished...

Not really. I'll just append them to the "honorary mentions" bit at the end. It's not my thread, but I was curious as to how it was going.

Though I think both those games are actually already mentioned (FFVII is 33 and Shenmue 22 is 64). The name underneath is the name of the first person to nominate. And bizarrely, OOT isn't in there at all, though the series is represented in both Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening.

Well there are loads there that clearly don't belong on that list and quite a few that clearly do are missing.

And quite a few where multiple franchise entries should really be condensed down to the single best game in the series, unless there's enough different to justify both.

quite possibly.

I think there were one or two with broken images ( Mafro in particular had a broken image, but I suspect that it was Superman 64, and therefore simply a big joke anyway :) ). And there may have been a few few that I just accidently skipped over. If anyone sees any errors, linky-dink me to the post and I'll sort it out.

Yeah, it was defo missing for me. Had to ctrl-refresh the page to get it to appear.
It's in there now though, and Wings has been knocked back into the also-rans.

Vice City is already in there, so both iterations are fairly represented, I'd say.

Naturally, this is only a chronological list, and as the post title suggests, we now get to live with the results... no matter how ill considered they were.

Fairy nuff.

Surely we could use some sort of way to 'refine' the list as I would say GTA3 is in the ten games every gamer should play, certainly more so than VC. But them's the rules I guess

GTA III is gooseberry fool, shouldn't be on the list.

When you get right down to it neither should Vice City.

I'd put 4 and San Andreas on there, for obvious reasons (they are the best in the series and show off different things).

Oh maybe there should be room for the original too.

Oh, there are plenty of ways to refine the list. Feel free ;)

This is just a list of the 100 games that the swirling throng of GRcade thought everyone should play before they die in the order that they were posted. In the broader sense, the entire topic is about those games.

I mean, if it were up to me, I'd strip out all the fairly recent games like Bioshock, simply because I reckon most people will already have played them, and maybe insert a few lesser known gems like Mystic Quest for the Gameboy and Ninja Cop for the GBA.

I hated San Andreas, but loved Vice City, despite it being the inferior game technically. There's no accounting for taste, really, and that's really what distinguishes the 3D GTA games.

The list has thrown up quite a few oddities as it is, and for that, I think it's worth it. I mean, a GR top 100 list without Zelda: OoT? Blim.

REALLY? SA is by far the weakest in the series for me. With 4 not far behind. (They are still great though.)

SA just because of the sense of scale it gives you, playing it I finally got what people meant about GTA games, makes all the others look small and closed off to me.

Is Crackdown on the list? Should be.
