Were the butterfly and bee ones done with flash on? I'd think that the flash might scare the subject off, but would you still get as clear a shot without it?

Nope no flash, just a very bright sunny day. Which came as a surprise given I live in Glasgow. They seemed disinterested as I took photos with the camera about 2 inches away from them. I got about half a dozen shots of the butterfly before it flew off.
They were macro shots and flash doesn't help much on those kinds of shots - the lens gets in the way of it because you have to be so near to the subject.

Thanks for that. I'll keep it in mind when I'm out with the camera next.

Here's one I took using flash (it's a spider!):
The camera will rely on the flash for the amount of light getting into the lens so won't compensate for areas the flash can't reach (the entire bottom half of the picture). So you can mess about and get the right angle to light the object you want but it doesn't make for a pretty picture overall (or I'm gooseberry fool).
The beauty of digital cameras is you can afford to experiment - I had about 12 crap photos before I got this one!

And it didn't run away/jump out to bite you? (that's what I'm most worried about with the flash macro seems cool but I don't know how willing I'd be to pull out my camera if I saw a wasp on a flower or something )

Great pics phoenix, I love the one with the leaning tower, looks like it's leaning just to make sure it's in the photo!
PsychoPriest, that pic has incredible atmosphere! Quite spooky, is there a person standing under the trees?
Mine for the day (very large pic but you'll see why):

Everyone who's been to Paris must have one of these, the mandatory Eiffel Tower shot:

I'm in love with my camera's macro setting. Going from my old camera with rather crap focus to this is a pretty big jump.
On my old one that photo would be a big, ginger blur.

Yeah, as I took the pic I tilted the camera up at the last second to get more sky in. Worked pretty well that

Dodems what camera do you have, great macro shot!
Thinking of getting a new camera, got a Canon IXUS 850IS at the moment, thinking of going up to an SLR but not sure, would really like some advice on that.

Went to see the Polysics at Kings College last night, amazing gig, not many people there and the venue wasn't that big. At one point I had both Hiro and Fumi both playing litterally in my face, if I moved my head I would have headbutted their gutiars.

This is probably the best photo I've ever taken, it's like taking a photo of an acid trip.
