I can't stop playing Pandemic 2. :shifty:

Had a game that started in Mexico, tried to make it like Swine 'flu as much as possible and managed to kill 5 billion people.

I was just watching the news there - those two people who were getting checked out in Monklands hospital are infected. Apparently 7 of their family and friends are also showing 'mild symptoms'.

It begins. I'm off to my underground bunker.

Here's a conspiracy theory for you. GlaxoSmithKline has started this outbreak to increase demand for Tamiflu.

I can't help feeling that a mountain is being made from a mole hill.

I think the media just love this sort of thing.

Some weaker and vulnerable will die (awful I know) but I suspect the vast majority will survive and it won't get as bad as they are suggesting.

You have no idea how this flu affects the human body, do you?

The people who are dying are the wrong people. Infants, the elderly, and people with natural or artificial immune suppression die in most epi/pandemics, but according to the last report I saw, all the people who died in Mexico have been between 20 and 40 - people expected to have competent immune systems. The reason the 1918 pandemic was relatively unique was that it hyperstimulated the immune system, which meant young-to-middle-aged adults died from the flu because their own immune systems killed them. Nowadays, it may be that ready availability of steroids can prevent some of these deaths, but the trick is supressing the immune system enough to prevent harm while not leaving the patient vulnerable to other infections.

Holds hand up

I really should have read more before assuming we had a normal flue here.

I'm strawberry floated if i get it then as my white cells don't work how they should anyway. If i get over-activity like that i'd have a huge risk of a host of other problems coming off the back of it as my white cells attack me.

You'd have to have played Resident Evil 5 to the end to get it.
