Started playing this today and it's great. The up/down 3D camera thing is pissing me off though because I can't decide which looks better and I just flick through the two constantly. In some places I can't even tell that much of a difference. Did anyone else find that?

The popping out of the screen one really makes a difference late Ron in the game. There's a bit where the whole level is top down and mario can pretty much jump right out of the screen up to your face!

Glad the difficulty ramps up after Moving on to the special worlds

I might just leave it in the popping out mode then.

Finally fully finished it. That last level :x Though when I did finish it I managed it again straight away.

Really brilliant game.

You can't. It always defaults back to the standard when you leave and go back.

This is a bit brilliant, isn't it?
It's certainly made me change my vote for favourite handheld Mario platformer (previously 6GC).

What do the golden flags do? I have all flags (and all coins bar two) in worlds 1 through to 8. :D

You need all of them in both the regular and special worlds to get the fifth star on your save file (a.k.a. to 100% the game).

Seems to save the setting when you complete a level, or at least it did for me!

I didn't even know about the difference camera modes, I thought the indicator was telling you the type of 3D in the level! (I was wondering when the "pop-out" levels would appear  )

Ok.. So I think I'm done..

I've got 312 Star Medals, I've got all gold flags and completed every level with both Mario and Luigi, including that last level. Is there anything left for me to do?

How do the time trials work? Is there anyway to share them for competition?

I think it's just you against any streetpass hits you get. But it's nice to beat their measly best times all the same.

Are your profile stars shiny?

If not, start all over again on a new save and don't lose 5 lives on any level from W1-8.

Ooh what's this.. so I do the whole game game without losing more than 5 lives on any level? Is that 5 consecutive lives or 5 lives total?

Its on the same level and its only in W1-8, its basically never see the gold tanooki suit option in before you get to the 'end'.

I don't think it counts the 'last' boss battle either.

I'm pretty sure I would have had that, but I let my son play on my save file.. certainly I've never seen the gold tanooki suit while I've been playing.

I've started a new profile for the shiny stars :fp:

Was going for one of my made-up miis and couldn't decide so random stylus point gave me:

Who you may remember looking nothing like that in the popular TV show - a gritty reimagining of the Superman story - called Dexter.

I knew there would be some catch to the golden Tanooki suit!

I'm sure I read in the leaflet that comes with the game that the 3D mode just changes the depth of 3D. Does it really change it to a pop out effect? If so, which is the best one to use (up or down on the D-pad)?

popout is best. Seeing Mario jump a couple of inches out of the screen is amazing!
