From 3DS thread

The Alchemist Penguin wrote:Capcom have given a large talk about their MT Framework engine (The engine they use for all their big games) and part of it was to do with how they got it running on the 3DS. It's very long, and entirely in Japanese, but you can look at the pictures here: http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/se ... 93420.html

To sum it up, the 3DS can do lots of nice little tricks like depth of field, motion blur, anti-aliasing, HDR lighting etc. but some aren't possible when in 3D (breaks the 3D effect, I assume)

MT Framework Mobile on 3DS

- Resident Evil Revelations

Takuechi says that at first he couldn't believe the results they were getting.
The game utilizes all the common rendering techniques on 360/PS3 like HDR rendering, surface shaders and normal maps, there are a lot more details in there and picture comparisons. Death of filed, gamma correction etc all are used.

I don't know if these pics are new or not!!

Left without HDR, right with HDR
ImageImage

Left without color correction, right with it.

Motion Blur, apparently it's not compatible with 3D and is only used in 2D mode.

Normal maps

Surface shaders, self shadowing

Anti-Aliasing, it seems that there is up to 2xAA in 2D mode and it's off in 3D mode.

they say that although polygon count and resolution is lower than RE5 but Revelations has similar expression, or something around this.

What the fudge is this? Is this a continuation of the RE story?

Only confirmed for 3DS, can't see why they can't release it as a download for Resi 5.

Resident Evil: Revelations is the next instalment of the RE series. It's a continuation of the story, a main entry, unlike the lightgun spin-offs on the Wii. Details are scare at the moment, but we do know that it'll feature Zombies and will be a survival horror of some kind. You can listen to the director talk about the game here: http://e3.nintendo.com/interviews/#/?v= ... ew_inafune

We don't currently know when the game is set, but due to it being a continuation the general consensus is that it is probably set after Resident Evil 5. It's also a 3DS exclusive, and I wouldn't hold out hope of it appearing on any other format as it's being "designed for 3D".

It had to be set way before the events in RE5, as haven't Capcom stated that any RE after RE5 will be completely a reboot with new characters?

Or it could just the end of Albert Wesker/Umbrella arc?

Lots of new information from the latest Official Nintendo Magazine, from an interview with the developers! We should get the full interview later, but for the moment someone has written up a summery.

There is also a bit about the Mercenaries game.
Mercenaries
The newest issue of Official Nintendo Magazine (ONM) hit store shelves today in Europe, and while there is no real big news there are a few snippets of it for the title. First they confirm that every single playable character from Resident Evil 4%u2032s and 5%u2032s Mercenaries modes are playable in the game (in case you’re not aware, this includes Leon, Ada, Krauser, HUNK, Wesker, Chris, Jill, and Sheva and while we’re not sure if this includes the Mercenaries Reunion characters we do know that Barry and Rebecca are in so Josh and Excella could be as well), as well as the stages in the game being the Eight Mercenaries stages from RE5 and the Four Mercenaries stages from RE4. This will be included with some more hidden characters who have not previously been in Mercenaries (like Claire Redfield), new Game Modes, and some new alternate costumes for the characters (in Mercenaries style having a different weapon set). A smaller but still fine detail is the mention that the RE4 stages may have been made more like the RE5 Mercenaries stages with the different time crystals and more enemies as well as some graphical face-lifts.

Revelations
ONM seem excited as they think Revelations could be the very best Resident Evil game to date, combing and evolving the series in ways to take what works and amplify it. Having a Resident Evil 4/5 camera style while maneuvering cramped spaces in the dark haunted house-like cruise ship, the camera style changes to a first person view when they aim, with ONM also confirming in this mode players can move and shoot while aiming. Given you’re not going to be running and shooting but stick to a crawl as you can allow yourself to pace around as you aim. They also say 3D is one of the best things to happen to horror gaming, there’s nothing quite as terrifying as looking left or right and seeing nothing there only to turn around and see something coming at you in fully rendered 3D.

They also speak a bit how the game is very story-heavy, and their interested to see how a friendship-turning sour between Chris and Jill fares as some initial disagreements turn into distrust which soon turn in suspicion and madness. They also speak that the game uses weather to it’s efficiency, and that the cruise ship they are on is doomed and as the game progresses parts of the ship are getting flooded and torn as monsters break free and multiply. They even hint that this all happens in real-time and not scripted to reaching certain points in the game, so the longer you dwiddle-daddle the worse state the ship finds itself in and the harder it gets for our heroes, with it maybe even including timed events in the style of The Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask where it sounds like the whole ship is screwed and you need to get out of there before time runs out with specific events linked to certain times on the ship. All very interesting an unexpected.

They share 8 reasons why this may be the best Resident Evil yet and a real system seller for the 3DS, check out ONM for the two pages on the game.

The idea of the ship sinking in real-time is so amazing I don't think my brain can actually process it. You can move and shoot at the same time, but you can only "walk/shuffle" in aiming mode, so you'll need to put down the gun if you want to actually run away. A good way of balancing it, imo, although I'm not quite sure how you can move and shoot at the same time when you've only one analogue stick.

Revelations is sounding very much like a spiritual sequel to Cold Fear (albeit from a completely different team and company), which is something I'd be incredibly interested in playing.

Because it's a full retail release?

Loved that game, the setting was so good. I'm really excited to see a Resi game that takes place on a sinking ship :o

The part about the ship breaking apart and flooding in real time has me excited. Even if this ends up as scripted events, it would really get the tension running high.

Sounding good so far.

I had initially ruled that out because using the slider, the touch screen, and the ABXY buttons at the same time doesn't seem possible (or that comfortable), but I remember the Conference demo had camera controls on the touch screen (using your thumb, admittedly) so they might do that. I don't like games that constantly switch between using the stylus and buttons (think of the many times you'd go in and out of aim mode), so I hope they've a more elegant solution in mind.
