What jaggies? :?

The Alchemist Penguin wrote:...The person talking about Resident Evil was very specifically talking about classic Resident Evil, with dark corridors and horror. Then they revealed Resident Evil: Revelations...

That's why I'm a bit disappointed with Chris as lead - the 3DS would have better suited a more vulnerable girl... like Claire.

The Alchemist Penguin wrote:...The name makes it sound like an Umbrella Chronicles type spin-off, but based on the images and what was said in the little "chat", this might be a return to the franchise roots...

If this has classic gameplay without the door/loading screens the 3DS will be my best console ever. Where did you hear that?

Chris isn't necessarily the lead as Jill, Hunk and some fourth unknown person also appear in the video. The multiple characters do make it sound somewhat episodic, but that might not be such a bad thing on a handheld.

This is instantly my most anticipated game. I would have been very happy with another remake and I really hope they don't ruin this by using the RE4 or (god forbid) RE:UC control scheme.

What did he mean by "We're making loads of Resies, but this is the real one"?

Most exciting is the suggestion that they're basing the game around 3D from the ground up. Hope that features heavily in the puzzles...

Zombies!!!

I take it there are no videos of this yet?

There is no actual gameplay footage yet, they only showed some cut-scene footage (all in game).

There was no gameplay shown here at E3 2010 for Resident Evil: Revelations. Instead, Capcom chose to showcase what it’s pulling off with the clearly far more advanced 3DS hardware. I watched a minute-long cut scene featuring Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine in a dark, dank environment that may or may not have been a prison cell. The two of them had a prisoner tied to a chair, beaten and bruised. The character models were incredibly impressive, both seemingly lifted from Resident Evil 5. Both were clearly scaled down – while 3DS is powerful, it’s not exactly a portable Xbox 360 – but nonetheless noteworthy for a handheld. Chris and Jill briefly talked back and forth before the mysterious man in the chair mocked them, informing the duo they were already dead. Ominous, no? Sadly, that’s where the demo concluded, with no indications of what was to come. The 3D effect was noticeable but not distracting, a pattern prevalent amongst many of the 3DS demos at E3 2010. I didn’t really know it was there much of the time.

And some info about the trailer...

A beaten up and shirtless Chris lays tied up and speechless in a chair as Jill holds him at gunpoint, asking him all sorts of questions and making threats about some force that has been unleashed onto the world unlike anything they have ever experienced. As she speaks images flash on the top screen quickly, mentioned are a boat in stormy weather, HUNK backing up and shooting something coming at him, scenes of Chris and Jill in Lost in Nightmares Resident Evil DLC, a never before seen mansion bigger than any other ever seen, and then it flashes out as another Chris in his BSAA outfit walks into the room, as Jill holds them both to gunpoint and the screen fading off to read, “Resident Evil Revelations”. The video was apparently short but a lot happened very quickly.

The Lost in Nightmares screens suggest maybe this has to do with the things mentioned in that, including Alex Wesker, an immortality virus, and a few other notes of interest. These all could be clues to the direction the series is going, and this game seems to very much be our first step in the new direction of Resident Evil. The fact Lost in Nightmares is brought up in past tense and Jill and Chris are together and part of the BSAA more than suggest this game does indeed take place after Resident Evil 5. The boat, the clones, the bigger mansion, and HUNK all could be hinting at what’s to come.

I'd better any money the final 3ds game doesn't look like this. These are PS3/360 level and the 3ds is supposed to be at GC/Wii level graphically.

Bear in mind the 3DS is rendering at a much lower resolution.

And no way in hell are those screens at PS3/360 level.

You can see the jaggies rather easily if you bother to give it a proper look. It's just very impressive for a handheld.

I'll bet you any money the final game doesn't look like this. Reports I've read put the device somewhere at the Dreamcast/GameCube level.

Visually, those screenies are way, way ahead. Oh, and the 'jaggies' aren't glaringly obvious to me, though I am using a laptop. Besides, I could see the jaggies on 360.

We shall see. Call me sceptical.

Very easy to spot rough edges in most games, hell, they're obvious even in Crysis if you give it a proper look.

The screens we've seen so far were rendered by the 3DS, but with no real action going on and not being playable, I doubt the game will look as good as those screens when released. I was just saying that they're certainly not up to 360/PS3 level, but they are mighty impressive for a handheld console.

I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Sure looks that way, 'Sprout. Can't blame Capcom for jumping ship though, what with the PSP basically being dead now.

I can imagine those screens show what the engine will be capable of in in-engine cut-scenes, much like RE4 was on GameCube. The in-engine cut-scenes in that were far more detailed than the actual game itself, so there's no real reason Revelations can't do the same.
And anyone thinking they're too good in quality, check out the textures on the ship in the last screen. I'm guessing the 3DS is just capable of impressive lighting as opposed to being a graphical powerhouse.

I believe he was making reference to how the last three Nintendo Resident Evils have been a remake of 4, and two spinoffs. I believe he was just assuring the watchers that this is a "proper" game, like Resident Evil 5 was the next proper instalment, and won't be a spinoff. He might also be making reference to currently in development games, such as the PSP one, that are spinoffs.

Thanks for that! I've been waiting for a proper description of the trailer since the conference! It sounds really interesting, and I'm pretty surprised to hear it's set after 5. I was sure it was going to be a "bridge" story of some kind. I bet this game deals with Alex Wesker/Spencer and all the stuff he's been getting up to in the background during the events of the main series.

He's the last surviving Wesker from Ozwell's 'Project Wesker' project.

Thank you, that was bugging me. Sounded familiar so did not think it was a mistake on Albert. Trailer confuses me... IS that Chris in the chair?

Don't think so, he's got a different accent. Jill looks a bit different from her Resi 5 model too.

We still don't know the power this little thing possesses, a lot of people are already dismissing it's potential (judging from recent entries to the console market) but Iwata said we'll be pleasantly surprised with the results, it could have potential power reminiscent to what a PSP2 would have, I say it could have. Games like Kid Icarus, OOT, Star Fox & Battle of Giants Dinosaur Strike probably represent "launch title quality" and demo scenes shown in games like RE and MGS reflects it's truer potential.

I may not like Capcom's games that much, but I will concede that they know how to make a game look damn good. If anyone can squeeze amazing graphics out of the 3DS, it's Capcom.
