Just been playing a $3 MTT with 3500+ players and I came 28th.

Cheers Sykes and Drummy for the support ;), did any of you guys see my amazing call that also ended my tournament?

It was so annoying:

I hadn't played many hands for a while and lots of people were folding so I raised to steal but got one caller. The flop was very nice for me though so I bet into it and then got reraised all-in.

When I got put all-in I took ages to think about what my opponnent could have and eventually decided he had something like AK or AQ, so I made the call of my life but then got very unlucky on the river

I'm definitely going to stop playing these $3 tourneys though as the reward is not worth the time. $10 only from now on...

No worries, you played well from what I saw. The thing is with these massive tourneys is that you have to run good as well as play well to get to the real money. Are you considering staying with the 180 man sng's for a while, perhaps?

Unlucky. We were just wondering what had happened to you actually, as the table closed before we could check.

How much did you get?

I came 28th so it was only $23.70 :|

It's so annoying to go out like that though especially after such a good call and while I still had a nice stack. If my cards had held up I would have been 2nd or 3rd in the tourney with about 1 million chips.

I do like the 180man SnG's. The thing I like about these huge tourneys though is that I can play very tight for the first hour and quite easily build up a nice stack with monster hands. In the tourney I just played I actually sat out for the first 40mins while I cooked some dinner and then when I came back I tripled up in about 5mins and had an above average stack

Oh yeah I saved a few important hands during that tourney:

This one I almost folded pre-flop after the reraise but it was lucky I didn't:

The A and Q on the turn and river just added insult to injury for poor awk134

This was a bizarre hand. I tried to steal the blinds with a weak ace and got resistance from the small blind. I couldn't tell what he had but I kept calling as I felt either my ace was good enough to win or it would be a split pot...

The guy always bets even if he has nothing but often he'll fold to a reraise, so when I hit my flush on the turn I let him bet again. Then when a 4th diamond comes on the river I make a fairly large bet hoping he has a high diamond. He calls my raise... with no diamond cards just a pair of 9's which he hit on the river  :?

LPPL - 6th out of 27, both a great and dissappointing result.

Everyone out of the top seven for Venue Champion donked out for no points, bar myself and the leader Lewis who runs the venue. Managed to get to the final table, and then got in the perfect situation to take Lewis out when he shoved on his small blind into my big. The blinds were massive, and having A-4, I though he was on a steal and called. Sure enough he was on 9-7, but the flop of 3-4-7 which didnt improve later rewarded him the chip up, and I would go out with A-10 two hands later.

This means its undoubtedly a heads up for the Venue Champion, but hes now pulled further ahead, he'll be roughly 500-600pts ahead with three games to go. This is now my only way of qualifying, so I'm gonna need him to go out early one time, and get consistent results myself.

EDIT -

There was one hilarious hand earlier on, where someone shoved for 1,150 after my initial raise. One guy had called my raise prior, so I went all-in over the top, and sure enough the guy folded. It was my A-Q vs his pocket fives, but hilariously, the other guy who folded also had pocket fives and told us immediately. First card out - ACE! Baaaaam! I must admit I whooped that one!

Congrats! Now just be sure to put in some consistent play and run good.

Question: If you generally make it to the final six or so each week are you guaranteed to qualify?

Depends how many games you play. In our league theres are three ways of qualifying. Being in the top 48 on points scored (but only top 16 scores count, but inevitably some people play stupid amounts of games more or less guarenteeing them a spot), through highest averages having played 12 games, and Venue Champions.

I would say consistent top six results would see you qualify some way or another, but because of the points structure, coming 17th or below more than once can really scupper your chances. I've had three of those results, so despite winning once, I'm crippled in qualifying via a or b, so I now have to be Venue Champion. Theres about 25 - 28 people playing there a week, so as you can see, getting one of those 'donked' results in the three remaining weeks is very possible. In fact, five of last weeks top seven did indeed get donked this week. I was sixth before last night.

Dunno if you have seen it but Will Hill has this funny live support feature where you can get help from an operator.

So I open it up:

operator112: Lilie: Hello Thomas, how may I help you?
sniffdonkey: I am running so bad. Some guy calls my 3bet with 64cc and flops the nuts. What am I supposed to do with my overpair?
operator112: Lilie: Thomas, my job as a William Hill Operator is to aid you with any problems or queries you may have with regard to your account.
sniffdonkey: This is a problem with my account, I need to run better.
sniffdonkey: Okay, how about you just give me aces one time?
operator112: Lilie: As I have stated Thomas, I can only help you with problems directly related to your account and not your play using our software. The poker cards are selected using a random number generator.
sniffdonkey: But it isn't fair. I am running so bad. How about KK? I will settle for kings.
sniffdonkey: ACES!!! Thanks. I knew you would come good.

Also, what is going on with PokerStars? It seems like every time I boot it up there's an update to install, each making the software worse than the one preceding it. One update removed the replay hand option at tournament tables after it's closed, which was handy for seeing what happened, the second one just slowed everything down massively for me. It took ten seconds or more to log me in, and a similar amount of time to bring up my cashier.

Just logged on now and they seem to have fixed the latter problem. Now to get that red button back.

Wow. I'm considering joining a local see, but just wondered exactly how tough it would be with the numbers and all.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Being in the top 48 on points scored (but only top 16 scores count, but inevitably some people play stupid amounts of games more or less guarenteeing them a spot), through highest averages having played 12 games, and Venue Champions.

With a bit of dedication, it wouldnt be hard. If I had the cash, I'd go all out to qualify playing three games a week or something. However, the truth is at the moment is that I'm low on cash and indeed keep getting evening shifts at work, which stops me playing when I'd usually play. Theres no guarentee I'll be able to play the remaining Monday evenings, but I'll do everything in my power to make sure I can, otherwise its all a waste of time so far.
