As far as I can remember, here is how my tournament went:
I did the rebuy early on giving me a 6k starting stack and then I was completely card dead for about an hour. With so many limpers at the table I didn’t make many bluffs and saw quite a few cheap flops with average hands but never managed to hit anything. I got AA once but that was the one time where everyone folded and so I just picked up the blinds. Near the break I started to take advantage of my nitty image and picked up some chips with cbets. So I had 8k at the first break.
After the break I start to play a few more hands and I slowly build up a stack but then I lost half of it when I raise from UTG with AK and the BB goes all-in with 77. Sevens hold and I am now down to 4.5k. Shortly after that comes the most epic hand of the night. I had TT and raise from early position. Some woman a couple seats to my left reraises all-in and then fatdonk to her left calls. Then another short stack also calls all-in and the action is back to me. I have both of the short stacks covered and so if I just beat fatdonk then I will be left with 2k which isn’t too bad, so I make the call. The woman has AJo, fatdonk has 88, other short stack has AT, so I just need to dodge and ace, jack, and eight, and I do
. I’m now up to about 14k. Just as the break was about to start I raise 4.8k with 88 after lots of limpers and the short stack to my left reraises all-in for 9.5k total. All the limpers fold and I call for 4.7k more. She flips over 77, my 88 holds and I go into the second break with 32k.
Soon after the break I lost half my stack again with AK when I raised from middle position and a short-ish stack reraised all-in with 44. His fours held and I was back down to 15k. I then get JJ in middle position and the guy UTG raises to about 2.6k, I just call and then another guy re-raises all-in to 9k. The UTG raiser calls and I decide to fold. They both turn over QQ and no jack appears on the board, so I dodged a bullet there.
A few more people get moved to my table and they all have large stacks. I have QQ in the CO and I raise to 4 k. The BB calls and the flop is 79x. He bets 7k and I reraise all-in to 21k. He calls with JT just hoping for an eight to make his gutshot. Thankfully it doesn’t come and I now have over 50k. When we get down to 10players I have KQo in the BB, the button limps and I re-raise him. He bets about 90% of his stack on the flop and I call. Then we get the last bit in on the turn. He has KT with a flush draw and doesn’t hit a club or a ten so I knock him out. He didn't realise at first as he thought he also had KQ and so was shocked when he realised he was out.
So I get to the final table with about 85k, average is about 60k but the big stacks had loads of chips so I was probably 3rd or 4th entering the final table. I played tight for a while folding lots of marginal hands like TJ as the short stacks could easily go all-in and they would still do lots of damage to my stack. Whenever aaron was in the BB I was UTG and for 3 orbits in a row I raised with AK, AK, and AQ picking up the blinds each time.
The most notable hand for me at the final table was when I had a nice large stack and the guy two to my right went all-in. I had AQ and really wanted to call but it was over half of my stack and with lots of short stacks still left I didn’t feel it was worth the risk on what I thought would be a flip. The guy then shows A7 and I regret folding.
Once we down to 4 or 5 players there weren’t too many notable hands. It was all pretty standard stuff. The blinds were now very big compared to the stacks so people were shoving very light. Aaron then gets knocked out with KJ against 63 and we are down to 3 players. I easily have the shortest stack as I only have 60k and there are over 500k in chips in play, but then the big stack proposes a deal. 3rd place is £240, 2nd is £375, and 1st is £525. He suggest we each take £350 and leave £90 for the winner. No way I'm turning down that deal and shortly after I shove from the SB with 22 and the BB calls with Q8 and hits a queen.
So I finish in 3rd but win £350, more than double 4th place
The other two players play for a few more minutes and then decide to split the £90 and so they both take £395. Most impotantly ofcourse is that I won the 'long laster' bet.
Cheers to Tom and Aaron for letting us stay round, and everyone else who came. I had a great weekend and would love to do it again sometime. Alton Towers was also good fun but very tiring having not had any sleep
