Everyone knows yer kids name goes on yer wrist as it proves yer a good maw (Cuz you spent £40 of your giro to get it done when you could buy, you know, nappies and shite)

Going on the basis that I don't think I've ever seen a decent wrist tattoo (names, stars and butterflies and shite) imo, it wouldn't be the best place for it. Or it could buck the trend and be a fantastic place for it as to prove that not all tattoos are shite.

I noticed this thread hasn't had much activity, what's the deal with that? I'd love to hear some ink stories :D

I want another one on my left inner arm. Possibly a musical stave with the opening bars from the sull aria on it.

I had the first 300 issues of the Transformers comics and My ex put them in the shed (which leaked) and they were mulch. Never really forgave her for that!

Don: Thanks for the long reply! I'm actually very sure I want the tattoo - like I said it's more a question of where, and of whether it might be a problem professionally. Have you ever had any issues like that? (Transformers are awesome, btw :D)

Bunni: So... you think the same design would be better if I got it elsewhere? Or you think the design itself is bad? Like I said, that idea was something I scrawled on my wrist while pretty drunk, but it's more or less what I'm thinking of.

Never had any problems myself no, since getting my first one I've worked in a clothes shop and now at a web development company. Neither have had any problems with them, got 3 on my forearm which are almost always on display. Unless you have your heart set on the wrist, I don't see an issue with moving it further up your arm if you want to avoid any judgement. Would you mind posting some images of the design?

Well I haven't done a proper design yet - I just have the pic I linked earlier (here) which is sort of the idea I want. Something small and simple. In black and red, of course - blue biro was all I could find lying around that night I decided to see what the idea would look like :p

Can't see that being a problem professionally, if anything I'd move it up like 4/5cm so you could hide it with a watch/long sleeved shirt.

I'd like a tattoo. But I ain't got the time or the money so it can wait.
Maybe as a birthday present to myself. Maybe some nice flowers on my left arm, something colourful.

If you want a tattoo and you want it on your wrist, then get the tattoo. Asking advice from other people is pointless as you will always get people that don't like them, don't like them on the wrist, don't like your design/idea, etc.

Getting a tattoo is a personal decision, just make sure you are comfortable with the idea and then make your own decision.

Right? I mean it's small and innocuous enough that I can't imagine anyone would see it as a serious issue. I really want it there. but I might be able to go for a little further up.

my transformer tats are on my wrists, decepticon one hurt like a bastard, the point goes right over where the blood vessels are quite close to the skin.

i don't give much of a strawberry float about them being there, i mean for example if i'm on a job interview they wouldn't be on show, but tbh i wear the same clean white long sleeved shirt with suit regardless of wether i had tats or not.

have you checked also that the red back isn't also a simbol of some gang or anything?

only reason i ask is i know a fella who got a very cool tattoo of a wasp, looked great, didn't know that generally its a simbol used by racist folk until afterwards (White anglo saxon protestant).

Here's one that I've had for about a year now, got it done at Red Hot and Blue Tattoo in Edinburgh.

You know, I'm considering getting out some shirts to see how far the sleeves come over my wrists now :p

Yeah, I suspected it'd probably be pretty painful right there on the sensitive skin, but I'm fine with that.

I did think about that possibility, but I've done a fair bit of Googling and haven't been able to find anything specific, just a lot of comments and discussions about people getting them for a bunch of reasons. (One girl who got a redback tattoo after surviving a bite from one, for example.)

My photo above was only a half joke. The Black Widows are a Nazi biker gang in the old Clint Eastwood movies "Any which way but loose" and "Any which way you can". I have never heard of such a gang in the real world though.

Left turn Clyde.

Black Widows are totally not the same species as Redbacks :shifty:

I've never spent time in Japan myself, but I think I'm reasonably well read on tattoos and the history of body modification and it's worth understanding their significance in a culture especially one you didn't necessarily grow up in. From what you say it does sound like it'll be fine!

lol, yeah, definitely not ethnically Japanese. (I'm Estonian on Mum's side and Irish on Dad's; naturally blonde and blue-eyed.) Again I appreciate the concern, but I don't think I'll have a problem :)
