PostNintendo MEGATON Conferences

Late last week Nihon Securities Journal set out a notice regarding "Nintendo Conference Autumn 2008". The event will be held on October 2nd, and according to NSJ, Nintendo will be announcing "new products". While Nintendo traditionally does not attend the Tokyo Game Show, an early October event would certainly help the company from getting lost in the shuffle.

More as this develops.

Ok guys, let's start with some wild speculation so that we can get our hopes up for some MEGATON announcements that will likely never happen. Still, the fun is in the hype and subsequent let down.

Perhaps this is a PR move designed to appease the 'hardcore'?

Surely they will give us a trailer of Pikmin 3 at least.

EDIT: NEW DS UPDATE CONFIRMED!

New DS confirmed tomorrow
EXCLUSIVE: MCV source in the Far East guarantees the news retailers wanted to hear

Nintendo will announce a new, updated version of its DS console at a press conference tomorrow morning, MCV has learnt.

According to our impeccable source in Japan, Satoru Iwata will make the announcement at 5am UK time – as first predicted by MCV last month.

Little is known about the machine's exact extra functions, but we do know the product will be the ‘multimedia’ model mentioned by Nikkei this week – with an MP3 player and camera function.

The launch date and price of the machine is still unknown – but it will be a surprise to see its arrival delayed until after Christmas.

It is thought that Nintendo is particularly keen internally to give the system a boost in Japan, where it has been trailing PSP in recent months.

The same can’t be said in the UK, however, where the latest ChartTrack figures highlight the console as the most successful in the territory – with a whopping 7.1 million installed base.

I'll put money on Pikmin 3 not being the Pikmin game we want.

Surely its got to be a zelda/ mario update, I say zelda because it is essentially a gamecube game ported over and maybe they have a new engine for the new zelda. I am hoping for a 50 hour zelda wind waker style quest with some great wii-mote specific controls, not first person though!

Would love to see some sort of Final Fantasy footage, even though it's as Square Enix game this could be a good place to show it off.

Wave Race Online aswell please with changing weather depending on what season the Wii's clock says it is, oh and lets have some F Zero aswell.

You're just setting yourself up for a fall with that kind of attitude. It'll probably be Reggie playing Wii Music for an hour and a half, while talking about how much money Nintendo now possess. Iwata on drums.

In all seriousness, I'd love to see something like a new Pilotwings or even something concrete on Pikmin 3, but I expect most of the new stuff will be aimed at the mass market again.

No no no, you don't understand. We must set ourselves up for disappointment by raising our expectations to the max.

That's just how it works.

E3 was for the masses. This time they'll give us a glimpse at some less casual IPs. Kid Icarus is GO!

Yep, I know, I was just trying to be a bit realistic for a change. Seeing as how that didn't work too well:

WIND WAKER sequel please! Or simply new Zelda with the cel-shaded art style will do.

No way, Winckle. Sources say Reggie sat down after E3 and reviewed all the bad press. He then made a decision that an Autumn Press Conference would be held where several 'hardcore IPs' will be shown to appease those that felt let down at watching a bloke with a mohawk drum like a mentalist.

Let's hope the conference begins with the symbolic execution of Cammie Dunaway.

It's Pikmin Kart!

Control all your favourite Pikmin, from reddy to yellowy, in what will surely prove to be a shallow and casual experience for all!

I wish, nothing would please me more than a DS metroid or a pikmin wii. Well nothing except more people playing PC games. But lets face it, neither are going to happen, we're stuck with "Samus Aran's Jump Training!"

Nintendo could win me back with a new F-Zero, Star Fox(that doesn't suck), Pilotwings(not made by Factor 5), 1080 3 and Pikmin 3 with online co-op.

Budget Training for the DS

"In these difficult financial times, now you can use your DS to help manage your finances. Using a range of easy to understand financial tools, Budget Training helps you track your spennding each month and suggests ways you can save money with the handy Financial Tip of the day feature".

Thats my prediction.
