Comedian Bill Bailey will be replaced by a series of guest captains when comedy quiz Never Mind the Buzzcocks returns to BBC Two on 2 October.

Bailey is bowing out after "11 series selflessly, heroically and hilariously" leading one of the show's two teams, said its producer Talkback Thames.

Music producer Mark Ronson, X Factor host Dermot O'Leary and comic Jack Dee will be among those filling his shoes.

Host Simon Amstell and team captain Phill Jupitus will appear as normal.

Never Mind the Buzzcocks first aired on the BBC in 1996, with Mark Lamarr asking the questions and Jupitus and Sean Hughes answering them.

'Other commitments'

Bailey, an accomplished musician who is leaving the show due to unspecified "other commitments", took over from Hughes in 2002.

The comedy panel show made headlines last year when Ordinary Boys singer Samuel Preston walked out during recording.

The performer - who had taken exception to Amstell reading from an autobiography written by his then partner, Big Brother's Chantelle Houghton - was replaced by a member of the studio audience.

They best not have that twat Noel what's his face from the Mighty Boosh on there too often. He's an unhumorous wally.

Jack Dee would be a good permanent replacement.

Don't care. As long as Amstell's still there i'll be watching every week. I trust they'll get in a good replacement.

:( . The guest captains last series were good, but not as good as ol' Bill.

That's how close me and him were, ol' Bill. :(

That's a bit gooseberry fool. Never mind, I'm sure the new season will be just as awesome as the others.

That would be good. At his best Lamarr was better than Amstell but Amstell is a lot more consistent and does push the boundaries of piss taking extremely far.

I too also pray that it's not Noel Fielding. As was demonstrated when he was last on the show: making up stupid words is not comedy.

I love Buzzcocks & think Simon really revitalised the show. Bailey will be a loss but I thought the same thing when Sean Hughes left. I'll still be happy to watch.

He clearly will be the permanent though.

I stopped watching it when Lamarr quit. I never found it to be the same after that.

Who is he? Is he a twat?

Yes.

Hes that guy who made a career out of covering (murdering) respectable artists like Radiohead or The Smiths, and then going on Radio 1 and acting all cocky as if hes gods gift to music.

Unfortunately, music aside his personality is rubbish too. I don't know if hes ever guested on it before but I think he would be gooseberry fool on buzzcocks.

I think you'll find it wasn't. Lamarr was amazing. He always managed to hit the right spot with his jokes. The guy they got after him never managed to pull it off the way Lamarr did.

Have you watched any of the episodes where Amstell hosts? Far better than Lamarr.

I too stopped (properly) watching the show after Mark Lamarr went. I don't hate Amstell, in fact he's pretty good, but I just didn't feel the need to make time for it. Now Bill is leaving there's even less need for me to make time for it.

I did see one episode with Noel as a guest presenter and quite liked it. But can see why many wouldn't.
