Not really. The way the game aims for the complete absence of contextual on-screen clues should work, but it doesn't. That particular section, there are so many things occuring both in the fore and background (there's a rope swinging which it absolutely looks like you should be able to grab on to, but can't) that the sign itself just ends up looking like decoration.

Admirable, but messy.

EDIT - quote from the previous page.

Well, that's perhaps the one time it doesn't work as well as it should. I think you'd struggle to name another that can't be solved with a bit of experimentation rather than pure dumb luck.

This would be a nice premium indie game at 240pts. It's just... Average. :s

Yeah, it's the highlight (or lowlight, whatever) of that particular issue. The only other instance I can think of is when one of the unfriendlies sets fire to some grass in front of you, and there's little to say whether running into it will kill you or not.

I feel like I'm pissing on chips here, so this ends now. But for how much I was anticipating playing it, I'm walking away disappointed.

Oh, don't know if you know, is there a second ending/special thing to see after stepping on all the glowing eggs?

Played the demo, really enjoyed it apart from the random deaths I encountered, mostly from art style obscuring threats. Not cool. Seems fun though, and I can see where the high scores would come from.

Will buy it if I can actually find some source of income.

Braid took a year.

Just finished it. Really amazing, although I only managed to
get two of these special collection items
. Overall though I'm glad I bought it, well worth a playthrough.

Now time to
finish getting all collection items
, although I don't know if I have patience to do Finish the game with 5 deaths or less achievement so I'm going to leave that one out till in future.

I really like the random, unpredictable deaths. It's part of the dark humour the game seems to have, it's not like the checkpoints are particularly sparse either.

Yeah but the rule is a month, I'm not saying it will take a month.

About that... (first spoiler is at start wise, but latter its quite ahead of start)

I was just hopping through grassy fields, not noticing anything odd or such, just heading that way... and BLAM! Bear trap :(

The game is very dark, and it works. That bit where you have to jump on corpses and once you got there, you need to drag the corpse to trigger trap so you can cross safely. Brr.

Nope. There may be one for finishing it with five or fewer deaths, but I suspect not. Pell (#1 on the leaderboards as of this morning) will be able to confirm.

Totally. It's half the point. It's like the blackest of black comedies. I mentioned two big laughs in my review, but there are plenty more.

Not yet. On 105% at the moment but nothing to suggest either there are more eggs or that I've hit maximum. Was expecting a star by my name on the leaderboard or something. Replayed the last chapter and the end's still the same.

Time to contact the devs, perhaps?

Christ, I could write screeds about this game. I'd love to interview the developers about it.

Completed it again today in around an hour. Might well try for the five-deaths-or-less run but I think there are too many bits where I can't guarantee I'll get the timing right.

I don't think they're revealing that info, sadly! One thing that is interesting is that when I chatted to them at GDC they suggested the leaderboard would measure your IQ. Obviously this hasn't happened so I'm tempted to find out what difficulties they had in implementing the feature.

There are definitely other areas where they could have hidden eggs though. Near the end where you first send gravity to the right you're forced to jump on a giant H. I've managed to turn back from there and through some precision jumping land on the other side of the big saw blade. Nothing over there for my troubles though.

Been a few bits like that so far. I'd definitely have put another 5 eggs in secret spots I've invented to add to the 5 I've found. Maybe there are eight in total? PlayDead's ode to Braid, perhaps?

Bought but not played it yet.

Was trying to finish Lumi first (level 10 is ridiculous).

"And Lo i came to a place mute of all light" - Dante The Divine Comedy.

A beautifully haunting game as stubley amusing as it is dark and thought provoking. The animation is gorgeous, the sparse sound track and clashes of other incidental sounds are lovely. The mute colour scheme perfectly captures an essence of a possible never-world. Neither terrible nor heavenly, just 'there' Limbo by any other definition then. Its tricky without being overly irritating, its deaths are all part of the learning process in how to traverse the world, which itself is a rather old school mechanic not really seen so much these days. though the game still features some of the better design ideas of modern game design, limited to no HUD, sensible check-pointing and totally at the pace of the player in how much he or she will get out of it.

Utterly mesmerizing and beautifully dark. The spider is utterly strawberry floating terrifying and maybe one of the most horrible 'feeling' things Ive felt whilst playing any video game. Beautiful piece of work, for my money better and far less pretentious then braid (not that i personally have any issue with intelligent and pretentiousness in games). GOTY.

Oh yeah about the ending, I actually thought when he was back in the forest on the floor it would start the game up again, I was a little upset when that didn't happen. Would have been a cool outcome!
