So much awesome. Michael Madsen was great, Tim Roth and Harvey Keitel were great, Steve Buscemi was fantastic and the whole thing came together exceptionally well. The last five minutes of the film were just outstanding. I'm really glad I bought this.

Cube:Zero

A whole lot better than Hypercube, and I actually think about as good as the 1st one. The acting/script, whilst still not great, was a lot better. It was a shame though that they couldnt really think up any new traps and just rehash the ones from the first film.

I think if you took all 3 cube films, stripped out the better idea's/aspects from each one, then combined into one film it would have made quite a good movie, but as they stand as 3 films, they really aren't that great.

Not really a spoiler, but

What was up with the bad guy in this film? it was like he had walked in off the comic book superhero movie set that was filming next door! I actually quite liked him, and part of me wish they had cheesed up the whole thing from the start. He made me genuinely laugh at least a few times throughout the movie.

I'll give it a 6 out of 10. At least it tried to explain what was going on. Kind of. I still think the story in Cube 1 is an absolute embarrassment.

I just aquired all the Hellraiser films.

ALL 8 OF THEM!

IMDB ratings

Hellraiser 1 - 7 :D
Hellraiser 2 - 6.2 :)
Hellraiser 3 - 5.1 :?
Hellraiser 4 - 4.6 :x
Hellraiser 5 - 5.5 :?
Hellraiser 6 - 4.9 :|
Hellraiser 7 - 4.6 :x
Hellraiser 8 - 3.7 :fp:

Never seen them before, so shall begin with 1 tonight and see if I can make it through the entire series over the next week.

I also have the added challenge of watching them with someone who scares very easily and doesn't like gore. so this could prove interesting.

You, sir, are in for the greatest movie experience of your life.

About the series in general the first 3 are pretty good and then they go downhill from there. Some of the ideas they have for the bad guys are pretty cool though.

Albear, you're scaring me now. What did I do after re-watching the Cube movies a few weeks back? I downloaded all the Hellraiser films and watched them back to back. They all blended into one after 2, though! Hellraiser was pretty good, had some nice little ideas and moments, but it's all downhill from there.

Are the Cube movies in a similar standard to the Hellraiser series? Good at first but then turn to rubbish?

Honestly, I'd skip the 2nd and just go straight to the 3rd. Cube Zero at least's trys to do something different. Cube 2 is basically the exact same film as 1, but with worse characters/acting/script/special effects.

Don't go expecting anything too great from 3 though.

IMDB ratings

Hellraiser 1 - 7 :D
Hellraiser 2 - 6.2 :)
Hellraiser 3 - 5.1 :?
Hellraiser 4 - 4.6 :x
Hellraiser 5 - 5.5 :?
Hellraiser 6 - 4.9 :|
Hellraiser 7 - 4.6 :x
Hellraiser 8 - 3.7 :fp:

This is going to be a long week.

@Skarjo - Spooky eh! Are you able to tell me what I watch after Hellraiser 1-8?

It's a bad horror movie. As long as holes can be picked in it and you can laugh at the bad writing then it's all good. :D

Penelope was actually pretty good. 7/10 It reminded me of Enchanted. Had the same fairytale set in a modern world, feel-good nature about it.

Well, they're difficult to compare really, especially as there's only 3 Cube movies and 8 Hellraisers, so measuring which tails off faster is hard.

The Cube movies really work best as early forerunners of the Saw movies, as they're basically just a group of people trying to figure out a series of gory traps and trying to decipher why they're there and how to escape. Personally, I quite like the lack of background in Cube 1. It would only really have worked with either a full backstory or none at all. Cube 2 shows exactly how gooseberry fool the premise can be with only a half-baked explanation.

The Hellraisers, however, suffer a different problem. After the first couple of movies, most of the directors just clearly didn't know what to do with the idea, and so took the typical slasher movie template with an antagonist that plainly doesn't fit into it. It's hard to tell from the later movies that Pinhead is meant to be a strawberry floating DEMIGOD! The first couple of movies do at least recognise this and are steeped in quite Lovecraftian vibes of forbidden knowledge and the pursuit of power being our undoing. By the end though, he's haunting a strawberry floating computer game and killing the players.

Actually, that's unfair, there's only one or two of the 8 that really shoehorn Pinhead into a completely inappropriate role, but it does seem like they can't agree on what he's supposed to be; in one film he effectively punishes those who enter his realm by giving them exactly what they sought (hint; it turns out to be well horrible), then in others he's bent on world domination. I guess they just can't figure out whether he's a villain or an anti-hero.

Enchanted is such a good film. It satisfies my man-crush on Patrick Dempsey and my dick-crush on Amy Adams

And my dick would crush her.

There was one which seemed to be more of a psychological thriller which I thought went too far away from what Hellraiser was about. Me and my mates thought it was the odd one out of the lot. It's been a while since I watched them otherwise I'd offer up a better response to your well thought out post but I guess these are the sorts of movies where it's best to go in with little to no expectation of quality in order to get the best out of them.
