The King's Speech

Very good! Might fall into the category of a film I admired more than I enjoyed, but I still liked it and it kept my interest. Churchill was awesome

8/10

Love, Actually is a quality film and I won't hear anyone describe it as a guilty pleasure. It has been proven by science that it is actually a very very good film. Science! Image

The opening monologue about 9/11 is one of the worst things I've ever heard in a movie. It set the tone well for the rest of the film.

...There's a monologue about 9/11 in it?

Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around.

Who thought this was a good idea?

I think that's a lovely speech.

I also think train stations are desperately romantic places to be.

So strawberry float YOU IN YOUR strawberry floating EARS.

Why would anyone who thought they were about to die want to talk to someone they hated? If anything 9/11 is proof there's not a lot of love in the world.

Well, yes, exactly, that's the point.

When it came down to it, when people knew they were going to die, they wanted to talk to the people they loved, because love was stronger and more important to them than hate.

You could in fact say that the most important thing to them was love, actually.

You could, in fact, also point out that Martine McCutcheon is actually really quite attractive.

And that Mori is rubbish.

Love, Actually has taught us so much.
