Good Night And Good Luck - *****

Bit good eh? Was expecting it to focus on McCarthy a bit more, as that period is really interesting, but it worked just as well without. The best parts were the recreations of Murrow's shows but it's not really fair to mark it down for that. That speech at the beginning and end is amazing.

Blue Valentine - not a date movie (aka. the most depressing thing I've ever seen on screen)/10.

This is really unconfortable watching. Incredible performances and a movie that goes with you when you walk out of the cinema. But I can't say I 'enjoyed' this movie, but incredible in terms of craft no less.

The Fighter

*****

Utterly awesome. Bale was incredible, as expected.

Marky Mark impressed. I'll give him that. I really enjoyed his role in this film, he played it well.

Was at the first Paul screening tonight, it wasn't too bad actually but it's not really a classic. It was really enjoyable to watch it in the cinema with a room full of fans, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were up on stage for a bit before talking about the film which set a good tone for it all, they're actually both really funny.

An enjoyable 6/10 from me.

Marathon Man 8/10
Finally got to see it, had always missed it when it was on tv. Dusty Hoffy was pretty great, in fact the whole cast was pretty great. The famous dentist scene wasn't as bad as i feared, tho i did peak through me fingers so i could block out his teeth when he was open mouthed  The ending was a little ho hum but the rest of it was very tense and suspenseful. The highlights for me were Scheider's fight with the scary starey man and Olivier getting the diamonds valued. Just knew someone would spot him! Oh and had always wondered why it was called Marathon Man, now i know :D

Signs 7/10

Not sure how I've gone nearly 9 years without seeing this. I'd always assumed it was the start of Shamalamadingdong's downward slope and not that good, but for the vast majority of it, I really enjoyed it. I thought it did a great job of building up the suspense, the assault on the house being particularly cool, but... I just assumed there would be a twist, with the ending being the thing I'd remember most about the film. Instead, the end did feel a little bit of a let down, but overall it was WAY better than I'd always assumed.

Jurassic Park - *****
Honestly, it really is the greatest film ever made.

The Hole (2009) - 7.5/10

I was well impressed how good this film was and I rather enjoyed it. I also don't think it was for kids' film to be honest due there were some scenes are a little too frightening for them. Especially, the bloody clown! I think it was a creepy, little strawberry floater and portrayed a lot better than IT the Clown or some others as well.

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief - ***
I expected this to be a massive pile of gooseberry fool, but I was very pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a rather enjoyable adventure film.
It's not gonna win any awards as there are massive issues within the plot and some of it just doesn't fit together very well, but the characters are mostly entertaining and the lass who plays Annabeth is a bit tasty... :shifty:

Signs is my favourite Shamalang film.

It has the worst twist ever tho. We're really smart aliens and we've just come to a planet full of water which is like acid to us. :fp: What did they plan on doing when it rained? Take their umbrellas out?

There are at least 4 moments in Signs that still make me shiver even though I've seen it a dozen times.

Leg in the cornfield
Alien on the roof
Hand in the basement
Alien in the schoolkids video

Give me the gooseberry fools, they do. :( Love that movie.

Yeah, it's brilliant. One of my favourite bits is

alien reflected in the telly

Mainly because you think it's all over, but also because you realise that, for all the smoke and mirrors he's pulled in the past, he's really going to have to go for it. The next scene is undeniably silly, but it IS exciting.

Man, Shyamalan really used to have it.

Deservedly so. Strange (not really, I'm short on words) how the messages still apply to this day, listened to that speech again today.

I really like Phoenix's Miracle/Coincidence speech, such a lovely way about it.

And all the sitting in front of the tv stuff is really great and seems really realistic, also how quiet it all is.

Great film

Yeah, that's a really nice scene. It's got a great mix of jumps and laughs - it's not high art, but it is cracking entertainment.

Sadly, it's all been downhill for Shyamalan since.

I'll never forget dragging my girlfriend to the cinema to see The Village. :fp:

Ugh.
