Absolutely love this film. The acting is superb, as is the soundtrack, and the 'realism' of it - not too polished, not all nicely tied up and neat at the end. Very believable.

Michael Keaton is all sorts of amazing in this movie. Whilst not seen as a Tarantino classic I think the film is actually his best and most mature effort. Love it.

The Hangover Part II

Kind of gooseberry fool.

It's always been my favourite of Tarantino's movies. That opening song 'Across 110th Street'...superb. Glad to see this film getting some love.

So it is just like the first one then...

It pretty much is the first one. Which is the problem. I like the first film but if I wanted to watch that... Well I would.

The Other Boleyn Girl. Not enough boobs/10

I liked it though, despite the fact that it was pretty boring and I spent most of the time saying to my wife "look, he was in Game of Thrones, no not him, him" and joking about when Henry was going to go Hulk.

Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson should be in a lot more films together. A lot more.

Didn't post it last Friday but I saw Tintin. It's great fun and looks sublime but for me the pacing was far too quick. It never really paused for breath. If it had it could have been something truly special.

The Guardian review was pretty much entirely concerned with the dodgy CGI, saying all the characters looked like zombies. Any thoughts on that?

Well I guess they looked a little dead behind the eyes but eyes are tricky! Everything else looked great though, the set-piece involving the dam is just superb.

Tintin (the comic book series) is a bit like Shenmue...

TT3D: Closer to the Edge should be out soon. No cinemas near me were showing it but it's supposed to be really good.

Grave of the Fireflies

A very poignant film, and I was really drawn into the relationship between Seita and his sister, but I'm not sure it's one of the best movies of all time like I've seen it heralded as. Maybe watching it with an English dub next time will improve it for me, as the English subs were pretty bad at times.

8/10

Yeah, it's an extremely over-rated but very harrowing film. made somewhat worse with the later revelations that the guy Seita was based on did not, as portrayed in the film, selflessly look after his sister but more than once stole food from her to feed himself. He survived, obviously.

I remember a review of this where I think they said that it gets a little to obsessed with the visual effects later in the film which kind of spoils the story and I'd have to agree. Still, I enjoyed it a lot. Makes a nice change from the sci-fi I normally end up watching.
