I might watch The Breakfast Club later then. My brother hates that film.

Again, "... is dead', makes it into the title. I think, '... has died', sounds better.

No, leave it as it is. Why must we sugarcoat things? It's a fact. John Hughes is dead. It's sad, but saying "has died" won't bring him back.

Or 'dies' - they tend to use the present tense a lot.
