Are we talking about lyrics? Or the whole package, as in writing the music as well as the lyrics? Anyway:

Taking music and lyrics together my favourite song is Great Expectations by Elbow. Thus:

And if it rains all day
Call on you I'll call on you
Like I used to
Slide down beside and wrap you in stories
Tailored entirely for you
I'll remind you
We exchanged a vow
I love you I always will

A call girl with yesterday eyes
Was our witness and priest
Stockport supporters club kindly supplied us a choir
Your vow was your smile
As we move down the aisle
Of the last bus home
And this is where I go
Just when it rains

Blinking and stoned
Rain in your hair
You only smoke ‘cause it's something to share
Singing bring on the night
To have and to hold
The sodium light turning silver to gold

Spitfire thin and strung like a violin
I was
Yours was the face with a grace
From a different age
You were the sun in my Sunday morning
You were the sun in my Sunday morning
Telling me never to go
So I'll live on the smile
And move down the aisle
Of the last bus home
And if you're running late
This is where I'll go
Know I'll always wait

Bob Dylan - Tangled Up in Blue. Dylan has so many epic songs that i could have picked but there is just something infectious about Tangled Up in Blue. It is a song of heartbreak and redemption and has no set cronological order to the lyrics or the time frame it is set in. It is just a breathtakingly, beautiful piece of music by an absolute genius of a man.

Is this just favourite overall songs or can we have individual lyrics. Corny as it is, I've always loved this line from one of Fallout Boy's songs (that I can't remember what it's called because they all have strawberry floating essays for titles that have nothing to do with the song).

"I swear I'd burn this city down to show you the lights".

I could go on for ages about how much I love Elbow. In fact, I have.

My favourite (at the moment) is Mirrorball.

I plant the kind of kiss
That wouldn't wake a baby
On the self same face
The lie wouldn't let me sleep
And the street is singing with my feet
And dawn gives me a shadow I know to be taller
All down to you, dear
Everything has changed

My sorry name
Has made it to graffiti
I was looking for
Someone to complete me
Not anymore, dear.
Everything has changed

You make the moon a mirrorball
The streets an empty stage
The city's sirens, violins
Everything has changed

So lift off love
All down to you, dear
And lift off love
All down to you, dear

And we took the town to town last night
We kissed like we invented it
And now I know what every step is for
To lead me to your door
Know that while you sleep
Everything has changed

You make the moon a mirrorball
The streets an empty stage
The city's sirens, violins
Everything has changed.
Everything has changed.
Everything has changed

Pearl Jam - Black
Death Cab For Cutie - title and registration
Pink Floyd - sheep
Paw - jessie
Sonic Youth - teenage riot
Nirvana - oh the guilt

Of course, this could easily change tomorrow, but black would probably still be on it.

Rapidly-greying is Mediocre to Average at games :fp:

White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.

Obviously you can never say a single tune is the best ever, but this song is perfect in every way possible.

Some good picks here - especially Everlong and A Design For Life.

My current Favourite Song Ever, though, is this:

To me, it's just joyous; euphoric, even. It'll probably change next week, but this will always remain in my top five of all-time, I think.
