If he bought the TV online couldn't he send it back under DSR?

Cooling off period doesn't automatically mean you're okay to take it out of the packaging.

So I got my 42" Panasonic VT30 earlier on today.

2DHD (blu-ray) is fupping gorgeous. TV isn't picking up any Freeview HD channels yet :| Though if this TV is anything like my bro's (who doesn't live a million miles away from me) I'm not expecting a whole load on that front anyway as his Freeview HD reception is strawberry floating gash (when it works).

Anyway...

After mucking about with the set and also disappointedly learning I don't qualify for free 3D films -Avatar plus three others- as you have to buy a BR3D player too (lol strawberry float that) I played the Motorstorm Apocaplypse demo (the 3D enabled Motorstorm Apocalypse demo). Actually, what I did first was watch the intro...

WOW :o It is amazing and has to be seen to be believed. The UI/titles are kind of right up against screen and the track and vehicles move behind. It's amaze. Playing the game takes a bit of getting used to (and the 3D isn't as *wow* as the intro but it's still very good indeed regardless) as at first the 3D is almost a distraction but the effect is very striking. Can't wait to get more 3D shiz!

Where you get the TV from? We're currently giving away 2 free pairs of glasses and a free 3D blu ray player which qualifies you for the films

*swears* Wow. That's a great deal.

I got mine from Currys. I was offered 3D films (nothing good) and two free glasses as part of a deal, but hi-lariously they wanted me to take out an extended warranty. What made it even more of deal breaker was them asking me to stick my Sky HD Starter Kit on finance along with the TV :?

I miss my local Comet store.

I'll have to keep an eye on eBay for not so rip-off priced copy of Avatard.

Yup. Which is why it's going for upward of £60 on eBay :fp: I managed to pick up How To Train Your Dragon 3D for *mumbles* twenty five pounds. But because Avatar had all that strawberry floating hype around I doubt I'll be able to get it on the (relative) cheap for a good long while. My other hope is once the current promotion is over (ends in July I believe) they'll go back to offering it to people who just bought the telly.

That video is nuts. How it ends with the biker... man, that gooseberry fool'll convert doubters.
The added dimension in the game proper is so good that to me it seems like I'm racing toy cars. Amazing stuff. 3D *needs* to take off (in whatever form) as it'd be a crime for something so cool/fun to just die out.
Before I bought my set I was saying if I could buy a VT30 sans the 3D I would. I'm less certain of that now.

Family reactions to MS Apocalypse video

Sis: *giggle* That's good.

Why did you pay so much for How to Train Your Dragon 3D? I recently bought Dispicable Me 3D (£12) Resident Evil Afterlife 3D (£15) and Tron Legacy 3D (£17) off Amazon in preparation for my tv in 2 weeks time. Finally decided on the Sony EX72 40" even though the 3D isn't as gooh as the Samsung sets the 2D is better.

Actually Dispicable Me 3D is less than £10 on Amazon! Bargain right there.

I just cba waiting for the general release of HTTYD 3D, and £25 was no where near as extortionate a price as they had been a few months back (or even now). Despicable Me is next on the list. Not so sure about Resi Afterlife but Tron will be getting bought too at some point. In the meantime I have some quality 2D titles to watch and buy.

After watching HTTYD 3D I have one regret about my telly. I wish I'd bought a 50+" model. I mean, at its best, Dragon looks spectacular on the 42" and so I can't help but ponder how much better it'd be on a 50" or 55"... but then going by posts elsewhere on the tubez, the larger the set the more prone it is to show bugs and glitches. Ah well, here's hoping in the future larger glasses free 3DTV sets will have no such issues.

Speaking of large sets, saw Pannies largest HDTV in a store, 108" I think. I wanted. Maybe if I win the lottery

The Sony HX823 looks pretty amazing with edge lit LED dimming, the HX923 even has local dimming but its too expensive.

Anybody seen the HX823 in real life yet? The images of it look soo cool. I don't know why I am so brand driven but I would never consider another TV brand, it has to be Sony for me.

Compare Sony HX923 with Panasonic VT30 the prices are similar. The Panasonic has problems with 50hz i heard or something. The Sony has a defect and is currently being recalled lol. But I think the prices between Sony and Panasonic are more or less the same depending on who you buy from?

Regarding the VT30 and the 50Hz issue. It's still definitely there but to a far far less degree than Panasonic's other 2011 models (so anything that isn't a VT30) and last year's VT20.
The high end Panas also suffer from floating blacks and whites (image gets darker or lighter in a staggered manner when a scenes go from dark to light or light to dark) but again this is much reduced (to the point of being barely noticeable) on the VT30. But no set is perfect, not even the '08 Kuro.

The VT30 also comes with calibration options that make it one of the best, if not the best, consumer sets out there in terms of picture quality.

edit: Though how it handles motion isn't brilliant. More than acceptable, but not brilliant (I believe Sony sets handle motion the bestest). It can be made smoother through turning on a certain feature via the menus, but that then introduces other issues when the scene is moving at a more steady pace.

Stu, what do you make of the 3D on your LG? Have you got a ps3? If so, download the demo of Motorstorm Apocalypse and gawp at some of the ace 3D jiggery-pokery on display.
