Books - 4 > 3 > 5 > the other ones.

Movie - The changes to the plot do sound a bit rubbish, but I'm not that bothered. I mean, you already know the plot. You only watch the movies for a bit of fun and to see how they filmed the better bits from the books, it's not like you're really emotionally invested in what happens.

Games and Stuff.

If you can read this, you're too close.

That happens with any half decent new film (or game, with Metacritic) though doesn't it?

I thought it was!

Alright, it was streets ahead of 2, which was a real slog, but it still trailed 5 onwards.

Books
3>6>4>7>1>5>2
Though I really, really like them all

Films
3>2>1>5>4
Third film was pretty great, 2 was really good, 1 was good, the other two were terrible, I'm pretty convinced this one will be gooseberry fool as well. Gambon as Dumbledore :fp:

There's nothing wrong with Gambon as Dumbledore son.

Neither of Harris or Gambon has nailed Dumbledore in my eyes - they've got parts of him down, but he's not the person I imagined when reading the books. Harris had the gentleness, but was too wispy and insubstantial, and you couldn't imagine him fighting. Gambon looks the business in duels, but is a bit too much like a dirty old man and not half as quirky as he should be.

And book 3 is clearly the best, as all the others have obvious flaws. It's the best stand-alone one and it's core "mystery" is the most involving - HBP is good, but the actual mystery of who the Half-Blood Prince is, is relatively unengaging. Deathly Hallows is by far the worst, as it really suffers from removing the trio for the classroom environment that made the others so enjoyable. You just feel too detached from Hogwarts and the stuff that's happening there doesn't really impact on the story as much. Plus, the main quest (or mystery), about the Deathly Hallows is, again, not really that interesting.

I'm going to make a bold statement here and say that I don't think anyone could pull off the Dumbledore from the books. He is far too complex of a character! I feel that an actor would always disappoint when portraying Dumbledore. However, Gambon is a giant leap ahead of Richard Harris, who was absolutely abysmal (RIP in peace).
