GRplayde - Psychonauts! OP updated, check it.

So it's Psychonauts. Apologies for the lack of pictures, I don't do many threads and I generally don't care about most things to go for the full wallop of rpesentation.

Where To Get Psychonauts
Let's be honest here, anywhere other than Steam would be fairly foolish. It is currently £2.99 until the 13th of March (cheers to Winckle for that notification), certifying it as the best option, as it means no waiting around for delivery and is a lovely price. Also, the game is reasonably old and was hardly cutting edge at the time, so even participants without high-end PC's should have no trouble running it. Seriously, get it on Steam, the timing is great.

A Schedule Of Sorts
Psychonauts is not a long game by any stretch (we are looking at about 10 hours for completion), so I propose the Playde to run for two weeks.

We'll start Friday. That may seem too soon, but it really isn't. The point of completion for week one will be (and I will try my best to avoid story-based spoilers) the completion of The Lake. If memory serves me rightly, this means that for the first week players will have five levels to play through as well as exploring the camp grounds for secret items. The second week will then proceed with the latter levels.

I like Psychonauts. It's a fun game. I hope this is fun. :D

Feel free to criticise everything. It's the only way I'll learn.

Gah, I was just about to say FFVII, after finally downloading it to my PSP.

Another idea would be to open it up a bit - make it any game in the Resident Evil series, for example. Or ReMake if we have to pick.

Or maybe Luigi's Mansion, seeing as the sequel is out shortly and it takes about 8 hours to finish.

The problem isn't necessarily the game itself; it's people rushing ahead. Deus Ex won one vote, but everyone just went through it in the opening week. The people playing TTYD disciplined themselves and kept it to a chapter a week, so there was always something to talk about as time went on.

What about proposing a game that's good but relatively unknown/unplayed? As opposed to something everyone knows.

Crash Time.

Luigi's Mansion makes sense.

Or Rocket: Robot on Wheels.

The problem is always getting hold of it. If it's relatively cheap and readily available, it isn't a problem, but if it's rare or on any old system it becomes a bit more of a slog.

I'd love to replay Skies of Arcadia, but unless people already own it, they're not going to bother.

I like this. I don't have much time a week to game, so if we can all roughly stay together, that would be great.

And I'd be up for FFVII, tbh :shifty:

Bulletstorm. It's good, it's cheap and it's multiplatform. 8-)

We can still push up sales enough for a sequel damnit!

So much this. Unless there are chapters or we can figure out some easy checkpointing system it won't work.

Do you have any suggestions?

I believe that alongside game length, price and availability should be priority concerns. Something lesser known would be great, but when the price is upwards of the £20 marker and could potentially require importing I imagine it'd put off a lot of people.

To throw in an example I was thinking of: Alpha Protocol. Now, I know there are many criticisms as to the gameplay (issues with many skills being utterly useless when you're forced into a gunfight), but the shear breadth of variables with regards to conversational choices and plot progression means that each participant could attempt an entirely unique playthrough, and then share stories of how their narratives differed from one another. Plus it's readily available for under a tenner and the average playthrough can be done in about 15 hours, which doesn't hurt. Just a shame about the gameplay side of things.

More people should post suggestions. I like the thought of Luigi's Mansion.

Skyrim, we can do every single quest, and fast travel isn't allowed.

Oh! My copy of Alpha Protocol should be here tomorrow morning! We should definitely do that.

Settled then? Good.

It's why RPGs are arguably suited to these. It's normally easy to split them up into sections and there are always side-quests/levelling for those who race ahead.

Saying that, I would be happy to replay most games in my collection if one of them gets picked. The only reason I suggested FFVII is because I have just downloaded it, and this might help sustain my interest and get me to actually complete it.

Alpha Protocol is a decent shout too since it's cheap for every platform. But isn't kind of lengthy? I'm still only on the first mission and I've had it for ages, and a GRplayde would give me the excuse to get back into it. Might not be great if it's yet another choice that only a few will bother to finish.

I do prefer the idea of GRplayde being for previous generation games though, or for the earlier games of this generation, say up to 2007 or so.
