GRcade Tasks of the Week: Week 7 - Deadline Today 7pm
Posted: Tue Oct 20, 2009 2:53 pm
Hello fellow Taskers,
Welcome to Week 7 of GRcade Tasks of the Week. Here we are, 2 weeks left. The home straight. And let's go straight to the standings:
- If I've made any miscalculations, let me know.
Week 6 was a blockbuster week in some respects. 45% of entrants achieved maximum pointage. That's more than any other week. I am great at spin.
It's still tight at the top. 1 point has separated Banjo and Dowbocop for most of the competition. Can anything change that bar Dowbo taking out a professional hit on Banjo? Who knows. For everyone else, it's not too late to dramatically change your position, with some good tasking performances. Terrible Lizard only began tasking in Week 5 and has already boosted himself into the top 10 with a double maximum pointage performance. Ironhide has fought and clawed his way higher up the table every week, slowly but surely, despite being at the disadvantage of not being able to do some tasks. JK's early performances have somehow kept him in the points, but he's dropping like a stone. A dissapointing showing from Sykes last week, can he change matters this week? Rightey has impressed with recent good showings. mcjihge2 is back in business after a mid-competition lull, and fighting hard with Falsey for that 4th position. Zenigame is seemingly comfortable in his 3rd place nest. And let us not forget those in the yellow band, many of whom are just 1 good performance away from breaking into the top 10.
PRIZES?
But what of the prizes? I bet you've been wondering if there were going to be any. Sure, doing the tasks themselves is fulfilling enough, but it's nice to get some recognition for your achievements.
That is why, everyone from the green band upwards by the end of the final week will receive a prize**
The higher you place on the table, the better your prize.
So that's 10 prizes up for grabs here.
Those in the the blue band will receive a better prize. And he who finishes top will receive the greatest prize of all.
**Prizes will take anything up to 1 year to arrive.
Now, onto this week. A reminder of the rules:
The 6 tasks comprise of:
- 2 Easy Tasks (1 point each)
- 2 Medium Tasks (3 points each)
- 2 Hard Tasks (5 points each)
2 bonus points for completing all 6 tasks.
Various extra bonus points for certain tasks.
There are alot of bonus points available this week. This could make a real difference to the scores. Also, a couple of the tasks have special adapted rules for IronHide. These are only for IronHide and cannot be used by anyone else unless they are in a wheelchair.
WEEK 7 TASKS
EASY (1 point each)
Indulge
Be good to yourself. For this task, I simple want you to do something indulgent for yourself and no other person. This indulgent act does not necessarily have to cost money. It just has to make you feel good and not be something you might normally do.
Sigular
Most of us have sigs on this here forum. They link to many different things. Blogs, charities, personal websites, videos etc. For this task, choose the sig of a fellow forumite (that has an actual link in it), and visit the link. If it is a blog, read and comment on the blog. If it is a video, watch the video. If it is a charity, donate to the charity. Get the idea? Whatever it links to, have a good old gander and participate in whatever it is doing.
You cannot choose my sig as that would create a paradox.
MEDIUM (3 points each)
Cinematic Gamble
This task might force you into watching something you would never choose to watch under normal circumstances. The rules are simple: To pass this task you have to turn up at a multi-screen cinema and watch the next film that is showing, having done zero research into what is showing or what the film times are. If it's an action-thriller, you watch it. If it's a horror, you watch it. If it's a cartoon or a romantic-comedy, you watch it. If you've seen it before - you watch it. Just turn up and watch - it's as easy as that.
IronHide Special Rules - Download or rent and then watch a film that is randomly determined by another GRcade forumite.
I will begrudgingly also allow that rule to apply to anyone who is financially constricted and cannot afford a cinema ticket.
Breakfast Club
What are you having for breakfast? Weetabix again? (yawn). Well. Maybe not Weetabix but people tend to be very inflexible when it comes to their breakfasts and so, for this task, you need to expand your breakfasting horizons. For this task, you need to have a 'Breakfast Club' week at home and, for at least 5 of the next seven days, you need to eat something entirely different for your first meal of the day. Ingredients can only be repeated if they are made in a fundamentally different way - eg. fried eggs one day and an omelette the next. What you eat is up to you - feel free to experiment. It is only for 5-7 days.... then you can go back to boring old Weetabix every morning..... if you still want to.
Bonus Points: Do the full 7 days for 1 more point.
HARD (5 points each)
Give the Man an Oscar
For this task, I want you to re-enact a scene from a movie. The possibilities here are endless. Maybe there are some steps in your local town centre that lead up to a statue. Hey presto, the perfect opportunity to become 'Rocky' in that famous scene where he jogs up those steps outside the Philadelphia Art Museum. You don't necessarily have to be in the enactment yourself as long as you orchestrate/arrange it. There is alot of flexibility here. Example: Maybe you have a toy T-Rex and a truck and want to enact the chase scene from Jurassic Park in an Adam and Joe style comedy segment.
I do not require any visual proof for this task. However:
Bonus points - 2 Bonus points for a picture of your enactment or 3 bonus points for videoing your re-enactment (you cannot do both)
3 Bonus points for performing this enactment in front of at least 1 other person.
Stalker
We sometimes get so wrapped up in what we're doing, we forget that there are other people all around us, with their own agendas, worries and even tasks. I bet you sometimes think you are real and everyone else is just a figment of your imagination and that when they are not in the same room, they don't exist. Well, maybe after this task, you'll appreciate how big the world truly is. I would like you to follow someone. Track their movements whilst remaining undetected. You must stay within roughly 50 metres of them at all times, though of course you can get as close as you want, and I insist that you get within touching distance on at least 1 occasion. To pass the task, you must follow someone for at least 10 minutes. This person MUST be a complete stranger.
Bonus Points: 1 bonus point if you take a small notebook and pen with you and keep a log of what your target is doing.
2 bonus points if at the end of your task, you find out the name of the person you were following.
IronHide Special Rules - Rear Window: Spy people from your window using binoculars, a telescope or some kind of viewfinder (or just your eyes). Make a log of what people do as they pass by, and describe their appearance in details, and any suspicious behaviour.
The deadline for completion of these tasks is 7pm of Wednesday the 28th of October
