Suddenly one of the comments for that Paedo video makes a whole lot more sense

During the 2009 Henry Louis Gates controversy, Beck argued that President Barack Obama has repeatedly shown "a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture" and saying "I'm not saying he doesn't like white people. I'm saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist."

Pretty much. It really is like a spoof video though. Can't believe people watch him and he gets airtime to spout all that crap. b :fp:

I remember this one country singer he had on it was mind-boggling stuff. I think Charlie Brooker took the piss out of it on Newswipe, the lyrics this guy wa spouting were unbelievable. I can't remember the build-up but this one line lodged in my mind:

"'Cause we'd all speaking German under the flag of Japan"

Words, I seem to have misplaced them.

(Although Beck has said he's a libertarian...but I do agree with "you can't be a leftwing libertarian" for the whole contradiction of terms which would mean he was naturally right-leaning)

What's wrong with O'Reilly? The Factor is a great news show! There's no spin! I've been watching a few episodes recently and the coverage of the US healthcare debate town hall meetings has shown some equally bad left-wing media bias that he has dis-proven (things like racist attacks etc). It's a shame he's Catholic and he got totally destroyed by Richard Dawkins when he was on his show (then again, who can match the guy in God and Science related talk?) and blames hedge funds when they are free from blame, but overall he is a very likeable guy!

That's the first time someone used that on me. :x

I assume it's the O'Reilly comments the notsureifserious.jpg is in relation to (although you did quote my entire post) but seriously after watching a few episodes he really isn't anywhere near as bad as people might say. Calling him a prick just doesn't seem fair given that from what I've seen he doesn't come across like one. The guy isn't like Glenn Beck's using pantomime/scaremongering to make his point.

The "there's no spin" was tongue in cheek and was an obvious reference to The Factor's catchphrase "The spin stops here".

The healthcare stuff, seriously, watch some of the episodes, it's amazing that other journalists reported these racism allegation stories without first checking the facts! People complain about Fox News right-wing bias but also forget that left wing news in the US does their equivalent (although they're not nearly as good at it).

Decide for yourself who think won the argument: Dawkins or O'Reilly:

Hedge funds weren't responsible for the recession but O'Reilly mistakenly believes that they were.

He does come across as a decent guy though, if sometimes a little shouty when people annoy him!

Wha? No hate for Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow…two of the biggest idiots to ever appear on MSNBC?

Seems a little one sided here! :shifty:

I don't see how any thinking person could view O'Reilly's views in that clip as being anything other than almost child-like in their basic naivety and almost wilfull ignorance of several hundred years of scientific progress. I mean, seriously, in a debate with one of the foremost authorities on scientific communication, what kind of comment is 'I don't see how we could have lucked out; tide goes in, tide goes out, sun goes up sun goes down' if not one that shows a 'journalist' who is hilariously out of his depth.

Bill O'Reilly would be like your entertainly cuddly, slightly mental, a bit racist Grandad were it not for his horrific history of cutting people off when he realises that they're getting the better of him, or otherwise just dressing people down with personal attacks when things don't go his way. There's an interview on Youtube involving a kid defending a speech given to them about drugs. O'Reilly goes off on his characteristic rant, but then gets strawberry floating owned by the kid who brings out a catalogued transcipt of the speech in order to expose Reilly's outright lies about what was actually being said during the speech, but then, brilliantly, the kid also quotes highlights from O'Reilly's book where he admits to drug use himself. A move which O'Reilly, duly humiliated, calls cheap. Then there's all the gooseberry fool with Jeremy Glick (I think that's his name) over 9/11.

O'Reilly's a joke. Not a particularly good one either.

Can't stand either of them.

O'Reilly reminds me of that man you always see down the pub putting the world to rights while nursing a pint of real ale and occasionally getting into a shouting match when someone encroachs on his territory -

EDIT: The O'Reilly v small child drug debate Skarjo was on about

I came into the thread to post that exact video, PCCD. Brilliant example of Bill O'Reilly at his absolute worst.

Ummm, when he disagrees with someone he just shouts "Shut Up" when someone says something he doesn't like, he once cut off his co hosts microphone when she said stuff he didn't like.

The guys a massive tit. Also I can't see if you really are a libertarian how you can agree with the guy. He is in noway in favour of free speech even he says he is, his actions clearly negate his words.

I didn't say I was a Libertarian (although I share similar political ideas) or that O'Reilly was, I said Glenn Beck describes himself as one, Bill O'Reilly is more of a traditional style conservative (not that it means he is against free speech).

Is O'Reilly's anger now just a part of the TV persona though? Part of why people watch the show etc?

Bill O is a lunatic. He's not clever, intelligent or witty. He's a bully that fails miserably against anyone with a hint of intelligence. His monkey audience thinks that he's won, as he cuts the mic off and spews some bullshit catchphrase.

He's certainly not a libertarian at all. He called a pro-drugs scientist an irresponsible libertine. He's also clearly sympathetic to the creationist cause.

Like most of these right-wing hacks, he wants economic liberalism, but not personal liberty.
